PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST announced on Tuesday, January 20, that Providence College men's lacrosse attackman
Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The league also announced Joseph and
Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.) were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
Joseph placed third on the team in scoring last year with 48 points on 37 goals and 11 assists. He also ranked second on the team in goals (37) and assists (11) in his junior season. Joseph recorded five hat-tricks, including a career-high eight goals versus Holy Cross (2/1/25), and was rewarded with USA Lacrosse Player of the Week Honors (2/3/25). He currently ranks 17th all-time in career points (122) and tied for 10th in goals (90) at Providence College. Joseph was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of last season. Joseph is now the second player in program history to be named Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, as Providence College's all-time leading scorer
Ryan Bell won the award before the 2025 season. He is also the fifth Providence player to be tabbed with Preseason All-BIG EAST honors in multiple seasons, as he received preseason league honors in 2025.
Chambers recorded a career-high 26 points on a career-best in goals (18) and assists (eight) in 2025. He finished his sophomore season tied for third in assists and fourth in both points and goals for Providence. Chambers has recorded 40 career points on 25 goals and 15 assists in his first two seasons with the Friars. He received NEILA Division I All-New England Second Team honors in 2025. Chambers also competed for Team USA in the 2025 World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship after the conclusion of last season.
The Friars were picked fifth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. Providence kicks off its season on the road when they visit Holy Cross on Saturday, Jan. 31. Faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
