PROVIDENCE, R.I.- It was announced today (Sept. 15) that Providence College sophomore outside hitter
Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. It marked her second-straight appearance among the league's weekly award winners.

Adkins helped lead the Friars to a 4-0 mark last week, defeating New Haven (3-0) on Sept. 9, Central Connecticut (3-1) on Sept. 12, Merrimack (3-0) on Sept. 13 and Holy Cross (3-0) on Sept. 13 to win the Friar Classic. Adkins started the week with nine kills, three aces, six digs and four blocks against New Haven. She then recorded 11 kills, two aces, nine digs and five blocks in the Friars' win over Central Connecticut. On Saturday, Adkins recorded a double-double against Merrimack, with 13 kills, 10 digs and three aces, while hitting .462. To close out the weekend, she hit .349 with 21 kills and added one ace and five digs in PC's sweep over Holy Cross.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Providence College volleyball team will return to action this weekend (Sept. 19-20) at the Pelican Invitational in New Orleans, La. The Friars will face off against Alabama State on Friday, Sept. 19 at 1:00 p.m. (ET) and Tulane University at 7:30 p.m. (ET). Providence will then play New Orleans on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1:00 p.m. (ET).
