Gregg Dennison Earns BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week; Jack Horrigan Named to Weekly Honor Roll.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men's lacrosse players Gregg Dennison (Acton, Mass.) and Jack Horrigan (Lutherville, Md.) earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors on Monday, April 21. Dennison was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Horrigan was selected to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Dennison anchored the Friars' defense in a historic 10-6 upset over No. 16/16 Denver on Friday, April 19 at Peter Barton Stadium in Denver, Colo. It marked the program's first-ever win over the Pioneers. The senior defender helped limit Denver to just six goals, including only one in the first half, as Providence clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Championship for the third-straight year under Head Coach Bobby Benson.
Horrigan led the Friars' offense with a game-high four goals, including two man-up tallies. He now ranks fourth all-time in program history with 107 career goals and sits 16th in career points with 131. Horrigan also leads the nation in man-up goals this season, with 11.
The Friars' win over Denver was their first against a ranked opponent this season and improved their record to 6-7 overall (2-2 BIG EAST). Providence outshot the Pioneers, 36-26, and won 12-of-20 faceoffs.
WHAT'S NEXT... The Friars will conclude their regular-season schedule on Friday, April 25 against St. John's. Opening faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The game will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network / FloCollege.
