Women’s Track To Run At NCAA Championship

Kimberley May and Shannon Flockhart will run the 1,500 meters semifinals on June 6 at 8:46 p.m.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track And Field Championship will take place on June 5-8 at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. The Providence women's track team will be represented by junior Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) and senior Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) as each qualified to run in the 1,500 meters.

May and Flockhart are two of the 24 athletes who qualified for the 1,500 meter semifinals which will be run on Thursday, June 6 at 8:46 p.m. EST in Eugene, Ore. Twelve of the 24 athletes will advance from the semifinals to run in the 1,500 meter finals on Saturday, June 8 at 5:41 p.m. EST.
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) placed second in the 1,500 meters at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 4:09.84. She followed that performance with a first-place win in the 800 meters (2:03.46) at the Friar Invitational. At the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship, May claimed the 5,000-meter title in a BIG EAST Record time of 15:26.50 and was a member of the 4x800-meter relay team that claimed first in a time of 8:33.43. At the NCAA Prelims in Lexington, Ky., she won her first-round heat in a career best time of 4:07.00. May finished second in the first heat of the 1,500 meters quarterfinals in a time of 4:07.51 - the third fastest time of day and qualified for the NCAA semifinals.
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) won the 1,500 meters at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 4:08.84. She also won the 3,000 meters (9:09.35) at the Friar Invitational. She finished runner-up in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:11.20 and was a member of the 4x800-meter relay team that claimed first in a time of 8:33.43 at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Flockhart placed second in her heat (4:12.94) in the first round of the NCAA Prelims in Lexington, Ky. Flockhart, who was second in the second heat in the 1,500 quarterfinals, ran the fourth fastest time of the day and a personal record of 4:08.40 to qualify for the NCAA semifinals.
