Both runners will compete in Eugene, Ore., on June 6.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Providence Friars competed on the final day at the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field East Preliminary competition on Saturday May 25 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
 
Junior Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) and senior Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) both ran in the quarterfinals of the 1,500 meters.  May and Flockhart each finished second in their respective heats and will advance to 1,500 meters semifinals, which will be run on Thursday, June 6 at 8:46 p.m. EST in Eugene, Ore.  A total of 12 of the 24 athletes advanced from Saturday's quarterfinal race to semifinals.  May finished second in the first heat of the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:07.51 - the third fastest time of day. Flockhart, who was second in the second heat, ran the fourth fastest time of the day and a personal record of 4:08.40. 
 
Freshman Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) competed in the 800 meters quarterfinals.  O'Neill ran a personal best time of 2:04.36.  She finished 17th of 24 runners.
 
The Friars will return to action on June 6-8 at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
