Cancelled Event: Softball versus Tarleton State

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College softball team defeated the Georgetown Hoyas (12-28, 3-16 BIG EAST), 7-3, on Friday, April 26 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 19-20-1 overall record and a 9-10 mark in BIG EAST play. Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) spearheaded the Friars as she went 2-for-4 at the plate, recorded three RBI and crossed the plate for a run.
GAME NOTES
-The Hoyas gained an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
-Sofia Peterson (Bordentown, N.J.) put Providence on the board and tied the score at 1-1 with an RBI single that scored Hanna Aldrich (Taunton, Mass.).
-Julia Renny (Syosset, N.Y.) drilled an RBI double followed by a two-run RBI by Emma Eichten (Alamo, Calif.) to give the Friars a 4-1 advantage in the bottom of the second. Gabriella Lee (Belmont, Calif.), Cameron Dunn (Bothell, Wash.) and Rachael Petrarca (Tampa, Calif.) all made it home.
-Georgetown scored two runs in the top of the fourth to close the gap to 4-3 in favor of the Friars.Â
-The Friars scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth as Peterson drilled a two-run RBI double and Elisa Smith (Glen Allen, Va.) contributed an RBI single that helped PC extend its lead to 7-3.
-PC was able to fend off the Hoyas the remaining innings to finish on top, 7-3.
-Alyssa Twomey (Warwick, R.I.) pitched a complete game for the Friars. Twomey registered eight strikeouts and held the Hoyas to nine hits and two earned runs. This marked her 12th win of the season.
-Renny finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
-Petrarca recorded her first triple of the season and third of her career.

The Friars will play the second game of the three-game set versus the Hoyas on Saturday, April 27 on Glay Field in Providence, R.I. First pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 1:00 p.m. For fans unable to attend, the match will be available for stream on FloSports.
