BOSTON, Mass. – Providence College women's track athletes Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) and Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) raced in the mile finals at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 9 at The Track At New Balance in Boston, Mass. Providence finished tied for 23rd as a team overall. May earned bronze and Flockhart finished 10th overall.
May established herself at the front the pack early in the race and led the group for the first five laps. She ran a personal best time of 4:27.36 to place third overall, earning First Team All-America honors. May is now a three-time All American.
"Today was very good, especially for Kimberley to finish third in the NCAA meet after leading most of the race," Friar Head Coach Ray Treacy said. "It was a fantastic performance given what she went through yesterday with running two races."
Flockhart also ran a competitive race, finishing in 10th with a time of 4:36.73. Her performance earned Second Team All-America accolades, making her a four-time All-American.
"It wasn't her [Shannon's] best race but she will be back. She is a great athlete and will do even better," Coach Treacy said.
The Friars open their outdoor track season at the UCF Invitational on March 15-16 in Orlando, Fla.
