PROVIDENCE SHUTS OUT NO. 7-SEED UCONN AND ADVANCES TO THE BIG EAST SEMIFINALS FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE SEASON... The 25th-ranked Providence College men's soccer team defeated the No. 7-seed Connecticut Huskies, 2-0, in a BIG EAST Quarterfinal match on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Providence, R.I. The Friars will make their second consecutive BIG EAST Semifinal appearance and 16th in program history.

Bruno Rosa (Cascais, Portugal) converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute to seal the victory.

(Cinnaminson, N.J.) tied a season-high five saves to record his seventh shutout of the season.
PC held a 19-13 advantage in shots, 7-5 in shots on goal and 9-3 in corner kicks.
FRIARS TAKE DOWN XAVIER TO SECURE BIG EAST EAST DIVISION CO-CHAMPION TITLE...The Providence College men's soccer team defeated the defending BIG EAST Champions, Xavier Musketeers, 1-0, in the team's final regular season match on Saturday, Nov.2. With the win, Providence was deemed the BIG EAST East Division Co-Champion of the regular season for the first time in program history.
Senior
Cole Dewhurst (Lancaster, Mass.) scored his first goal of the season in the 73rd minute to clinch the victory for the Friars.
Providence held a 13-7 advantage in shots, including a 9-5 edge in shots on goal. The Friars also led in corner kicks, 9-5.
Burns collected five saves in goal for Providence.
He was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Nov.4 in the league's final weekly honors recognition of the season following his outstanding performance.
PROVIDENCE QUALIFIES FOR ITS TWENTY-FOURTH BIG EAST TOURNAMENT, MARKING ITS SECOND APPEARANCE AS THE SECOND SEED... After their victory over Xavier, the Friars secured their 24th appearance in the BIG EAST Championship. Providence earned the No. 2 seed for only the second time in program history, the last time being in 2021 when they advanced to the championship round and made a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, reaching the third round.
PROVIDENCE IS RANKED NO. 25 IN THE COUNTRY
As of November 5, 2024, the Providence College Friars men's soccer team is ranked 25th in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll. This marks the the team's third appearance in the Top-25 this season, having previously been ranked 18th and 23rd.
FRIARS ENTER BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP AS TOP-20 RPI CONTENDER
The Friars enter the match ranked 16th nationally in the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI).
Other BIG EAST teams in the top 35- Georgetown stands at 10, while Akron is ranked 32.
St. John's comes into the match ranked 71 in RPI.
FRIARS VS. ST. JOHN'S ALL-TIME
Providence trails the all-time series against St. John's, 20-11-6. This upcoming game marks the second meeting of the 2024 season, following the Friars' recent 1-1 draw with the Red Storm in Providence, R.I. on October 19.
Providence has faced St. John's in the BIG EAST Championship five times, with St. John's winning three of those matchups. The Red Storm holds a 2-1 all-time series edge over the Friars in BIG EAST Semifinals play.
The last time the two teams met in the semifinals was in 2019, when the Friars defeated the Red Storm, 2-1, in Queens, N.Y. That season, the Friars finished as the BIG EAST Championship runners-up and advanced to the NCAA Third Round for just the third time in program history.

The Friars tied the Johnnies, 1-1, during their regular-season match-up on October, 19 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I.

QUARTERFINALS AT HOME
After defeating UConn in the Quarterfinals Round on Chapey Field, the Friars now hold a 10-3 all-time record in BIG EAST Championship home games including a perfect 6-0 mark in BIG EAST Quarterfinals held on their home turf.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
The Friars began the 2024 BIG EAST Championship with a 10-4-3 overall record.
For the first time in program history, Providence ended the regular season as the BIG EAST East Division Co-Champion, entering the BIG EAST Championship as the No. 2 seed. The last time the Friars were seeded second was in 2021, when they reached the BIG EAST Championship game and advanced to the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament.
SHUTOUT WIN STREAK
The Friars are currently on a four-game win streak, including a three-game shutout run. This marks the team's longest win streak so far this season.
FIVE FRIARS EARN ALL-BIG EAST HONORS
It was announced on Nov. 12, that five Providence College men's soccer student-athletes received All-BIG EAST honors following their standout performances in the 2024 regular season.

FRIARS ARE 6-0-1 WHEN SCORING TWO-OR-MORE GOALS
Providence has posted a 6-0-1 record when scoring two-or-more goals in a game.
BALANCED ATTACK
Ten different players on the roster have scored at least one goal, and five of those 10 players are multi-goal scorers.
SECOND HALF SURGE
Providence has scored 15 of its 22 goals this season during the second half.
FRIARS ARE 1-0 AGAINST RANKED TEAMS
On September 20, Providence pulled off an upset win over No. 8 Seton Hall in their BIG EAST opener at Chapey Field in Providence, R.I.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Junior
Bruno Rosa leads Providence with 15 points, five goals and five assists. Rosa converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute that sealed the Friars' victory in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals ove UConn on Nov. 9.
Aidan Davock follows with four goals and is currently tied for third in the conference in game-winning goals. Davock's older brother, Trevor, was also a transfer graduate and part of the 2019 squad, where he scored the golden goal at Penn State in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.
Graduate student
Israel Neto, a transfer from Caldwell
University, has had a late-season surge, scoring all three of his goals this season his the last four games. Neto scored what proved to be the game-winner versus UConn on Nov. 9.
Freshman defender
Vasco Teixeira (Arrentela, Portugal) has had a standout rookie season for the Friars. Teixeira holds three assists on the season so far. He assisted on the deciding goal in the Friars' win at UConn which earned him BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Oct. 28.
Lukas Burns has played 1,602 minutes in goal for Providence and owns a 0.90 goals against average and a 0.755 save percentage. He has been the goalkeeper of record in each match this season (11-4-3) with seven clean sheets. This season, Burns was honored as the BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year and was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
HEAD COACH CRAIG STEWART IN HIS 13TH SEASON WITH 125 WINS AND STELLAR RECORD HEADING INTO UCONN MATCH
Craig Stewart is in the midst of his 13th-year at Providence College and recorded his 100th career win with the Friars on Nov. 11, 2021. He enters Thursday's match against St. John's with a 126-81-36 record as head coach at Providence. Before taking over the Friars' program in 2012, he spent three seasons as head coach at Franklin Pierce (51-8-6). In 16 years overall as a head coach, Stewart has posted a record of 176-88-36. Stewart has built an impressive coaching career at Providence, leading the team to nine BIG EAST Championship appearances and five NCAA Tournament berths.
SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
The Red Storm claimed the No. 3-seed in the BIG EAST Championship after finishing as the BIG EAST East Division Co-Champion alongside the Friars.
The No.3-seed St. John's shut out No. 6 Seton Hall, 2-0, in Queens, N.Y. on Nov. 9 to advance to the BIG EAST Semifinals for the first time since since 2019.
The Johnnies are currently on a three-game win streak entering Thursday's match.
Miguelo Diaz leads the Red Storm with 12 points on four goals and four assists. Nigel Griffith is second in scoring with 10 points on three goals and four assists. Martin Kozack owns nine points on four goals and one assist.
Junior Alec McLachlan has played 1,620 minutes in goal for St. John's this season. McLachlan has registered a 1.00 goals against average and a 0.700 save percentage. He has been the goalkeeper of record in 18 matches and has posted four shutouts.
