Lacrosse Preseason All-BIG EAST Awards

Michael Chabra, James Corasaniti and Ryan Bell Earn Preseason All-BIG EAST Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The BIG EAST announced on Thursday, January 25 that Providence College men's lacrosse players Michael Chabra (Reading, Mass.), James Corasaniti (New York, N.Y.) and Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) were named to the 2023 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
 
Chabra, a senior, finished the 2023 season ranked third on the team in scoring with 41 points on 37 goals and two assists. His 37 goals led the team and marked a career high. He was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, BIG EAST All-Tournament Team and Division I NEILA All-New England First Team. He also closed the season by earning USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America Honorable Mention accolades. Additionally, he was named USA Lacrosse Preseason All-America Honorable Mention for the upcoming season. 
 
Corasaniti, a graduate student, was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year last season and is a unanimous selection on this year's preseason team. He started all 14 regular-season games in goal, amassed 192 saves and recorded a .513 save percentage. He finished the regular season ranked ninth in the country in saves per game (13.71). 
 
Bell, a junior, led the Friars in scoring last year with 61 points on 21 goals and 40 assists. He finished the regular season ranked fourth among NCAA Division I players in assists per game, averaging 2.79. He was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, BIG EAST All-Tournament Team and Division I NEILA All-New England Second Team. Bell became the 23rd player in program history to reach 100-point milestone. He ranks 23rd in scoring and 10th all-time at providence in assists (74). 
 
The Friars also were picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. Providence kicks off its season at home against Holy Cross on Sunday, February 4 at 1:00 p.m.
