PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team will travel to Abilene, Texas to compete in the Abilene Christian University Tournament. The Friars open the tournament on Sept. 1 against Abilene Christian at 4:00 p.m. (ET). On Sept. 2, Providence will play in two matches against University of North Dakota at 11:00 a.m. (ET) and Grambling State University at 2:00 p.m. (ET).
SCOUTING THE FRIARS… The Friars enter the tournament 0-3 after competing at the Cal State Bakersfield Tournament last weekend. The Friars fell to Southern Utah University (1-3), Cal State Bakersfield (0-3), and Eastern Washington University (1-3).
Kayla Grant (Rowlett, Texas) earned All-Tournament Honors.
Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) leads the team in kills, with 29, followed by Grant who tallied 25 in the Cal State Bakersfield Tournament.
Savannah Ivie (Frisco, Texas) registered a team-high 37 digs. Ivie is ranked 10th in the BIG EAST in digs.
JiJi Lykins (Coral Springs, Fla.) leads the Friars in service aces, with five. Lykins is tied for fourth in the BIG EAST for service aces.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS… The Wildcats enter the weekend with a 1-2 record after playing in the Texas Tech Tournament. The Wildcats defeated Houston Christian University (3-1) and fell to Texas Tech (1-3) and Texas A&M University (2-3).
Sophomore Ashli Edmiston leads the team in kills, with 33.
Junior setter Madeline Guffy averages 11.38 assists per a set, and leads the team in assists overall (91).
Sara Carrizales leads the defense with 40 digs.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING HAWKS… The Fighting Hawks travel to Abilene, Texas with an 0-3 record after the Bobcat Blackridge Invite Tournament. They fell to Kennesaw State (0-3), Montana State (1-3), and Oregon State (0-3).
Graduate student Elizabeth Norris leads North Dakota in assists with 47 and in digs with 23.
Sophomore Paige Barber leads the offense with 24 kills through the first three games followed by Kaycee O'Dell who has 23.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS… The Tigers head to the ACU Tournament with a 1-3 record after playing in the Southeastern Louisiana Tournament. They fell to Southeastern Louisiana (0-3), University of Texas El Paso (0-3), and University of Washington (0-3) and won against University of Louisiana at Monroe (3-2).
Senior Zyonn Smith leads the offense with 30 kills through the first four matches.
Nyah Ellis leads the Tigers in digs, with 54.
WHATS NEXT… The Friars will return home to host The 18th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic on September 8-9. The tournament will consist of six matches over two days. The teams joining the Friars include Saint Peters, Central Connecticut, and Bryant University. Providence will open the tournament against Saint Peters on Friday, Sept. 8 at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday Sept. 9 they face Central Connecticut at 1:30 p.m. and the Bryant University at 5:30 p.m.
