PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior forward 
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) was named to the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST Team. The BIG EAST released its 2023 Preseason Coaches' Poll and preseason honors today (Aug. 10).
 
Hughes, named to the ALL-BIG EAST Second Team and All-New England Second Team last season, started in 17 of the 18 games for the Friars. She recorded seven points last season with two goals and three assists. Hughes is currently tied for 12
th place among the program's all-time scoring leaders with 43 points over three seasons.  
 
The Friars are looking to return to the BIG EAST Tournament for the eighth time in ten years under the guidance of Head Coach 
Sam Lopes. The Friars were picked seventh in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
Providence College will open the season against Iona University on Thursday, Aug. 17 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. The Friars will play seven non-conference games before beginning conference play on Thursday, Sep. 21 against Seton Hall University.
