Patrick Barbosa Named Assistant Coach For Women's Soccer

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College women's soccer Head Coach Sam Lopes announced today [Aug. 3] that Patrick Barbosa has been elevated to assistant coach. Barbosa was originally added to the staff as a volunteer assistant in June, but has be able to take on a fulltime role with the program by virtue of newly adopted NCAA legislation allowing teams to expand the number of fulltime coaches on staff.  
 
Barbosa also serves as a staff coach for the Rhode Island Olympic Development Program where he develops and evaluates player performance, conducts and supervises practices, schedules all games and conducts year-round field maintenance. He also serves as head coach of the ECRL Girls squad of Bayside FC and has been its Junior Academy Director since 2015. Barbosa has also worked as a staff coach with the New England Revolution (2016-19) and the New England Futbol Club (2015-16).

In his role with the Friars, he will be responsible for: providing instruction and assisting in practice preparation, game day duties, recruiting, goalkeeper position coaching and administrative tasks as assigned.
 
A native of Riverside, R.I., Barbosa earned his bachelor of science degree in business administration with a concentration in sports management from Southern New Hampshire University in 2023.
