Ryan Bell and Michael Chabra join Corasaniti on the All-BIG EAST First Team for men’s lacrosse.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The BIG EAST announced its postseason major awards and All-BIG EAST selections today [May 3] for men's lacrosse. Providence College was well represented among the list of honorees. James Corasaniti (New York, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year. Corasaniti also was selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team and was joined by teammates Ryan Bell (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Michael Chabra (Reading, Mass.). It marks the most All-BIG EAST First Team selections for the program in a single season, since the formation of the league in 2010.

Corasaniti is the third goaltender in program history to earn the league's top honor at that position, joining former Friars Peter Badgley (2015) and two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and All-America selection Tate Boyce (2017, 2019). He started all 14 regular-season games in goal for the Friars. He has amassed 192 saves, recording a .513 save percentage. The graduate student has compiled 10 double-digit save games this season, including a career-high 23 saves against then-No. 10 Georgetown. Corasaniti was tabbed BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 6 and earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll on Mar. 13. He was among the NCAA Division I statistical leaders in saves per game throughout the regular season, at one point leading the nation with 15 saves per game (Apr. 10). Corasaniti finished the regular season ranked ninth in the country in saves per game (13.71).

Bell leads the Friars in scoring with 60 points on 21 goals and 39 assists. The sophomore recorded a career-high 10 points (6 goals, 4 assists) against Bryant on Feb. 11. Bell's 10-point performance marked the first time a BIG EAST men's lacrosse player registered 10 points in a game since 2016. He has recorded at least one assist in each game this season and led the league in assists per game throughout the 2023 slate. He was honored by the league five times during the regular season, earning BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week, twice (Feb.13, Feb. 20), and collected three Weekly Honor Roll selections (Feb. 6, Apr. 3, Apr. 10). He was ranked inside the top-10 among NCAA Division I players in assists per game throughout the season, climbing as high as third (Apr. 17). He finished the regular season ranked fourth, averaging 2.79 assists per game. As the Friars enter BIG EAST Tournament play on Thursday, Bell is four assists shy of setting the program's single-season assist record and four points shy of setting the single-season points record at Providence. Kyle Ojakian currently holds both single season records, having finished the 2002 campaign with 42 assists and 63 points.

Chabra enters the BIG EAST Tournament ranked third on the team in scoring with 36 points on 34 goals and two assists. His 34 goals lead the team and mark a career high. The junior has recorded seven hat tricks and matched his career-high five goals against St. John's on Apr. 29. He was two-time BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week this season after his performances against Holy Cross (Feb. 5) and St. Johns (Apr. 29). Chabra has scored in 12 of the 14 regular-season games for the Friars this season, recording nine multi-goal contests. He currently ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.43).

The Friars return to the field on Thursday, May 4, in the BIG EAST Semifinals. The fourth-seeded Friars will face the top-seeded Georgetown Hoyas at 6:30 p.m. (ET) in Milwaukee, Wis. The game will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.
