PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Two members of the Providence College men's lacrosse team were featured on 2023 Division I NEILA All-New England Teams. Junior
Michael Chabra (Reading, Mass.) was named to the First Team, while sophomore
Ryan Bell received Second Team honors.
Chabra finished the 2023 season ranked third on the team in scoring with 39 points on 37 goals and two assists. His 37 goals led the team and marked a career high. The junior recorded eight hat tricks and matched his career-high of five goals against St. John's on Apr. 29. He was two-time BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week this season (Feb. 5 and Apr. 29). Chabra scored in 13 of the Friars' 15 games this season, including 10 multi-goal contests. He finished the regular season ranked fifth in the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.43). In the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinal against top-seeded Georgetown (May 4), Chabra recorded three goals and earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team. Additionally, Chabra received USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America Honorable Mention at the conclusion of the season.
Bell led the Friars in scoring with 61 points on 21 goals and 40 assists in the 2023 season. The sophomore recorded a career-high 10 points (6 goals, 4 assists) against Bryant on Feb. 11. Bell's 10-point performance marked the first time a BIG EAST men's lacrosse player registered 10 points in a game since 2016. He has recorded at least one assist in each game this season and led the league in assists per game throughout the 2023 slate. He was honored by the league five times during the regular season, earning BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week, twice (Feb.13, Feb. 20), and collected three Weekly Honor Roll selections (Feb. 6, Apr. 3, Apr. 10). He was ranked inside the top-10 among NCAA Division I players in assists per game throughout the season, climbing as high as third (Apr. 17). He finished the regular season ranked fourth, averaging 2.79 assists per game. Bell ended the season just three assists shy of setting the program's single-season assist record and three points shy of setting the single-season points record at Providence. Kyle Ojakian currently holds both single season records, having finished the 2002 campaign with 42 assists and 63 points.
