PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Friar Invitational at the
Ray Treacy Track at Hendricken Field in Providence, R.I. on April 14. Eight facility records were set.
Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) led the Friar men in the 5,000 meters with a time of 13:41.83, breaking his own facility record by 14 seconds.
Abdel Laadjel (Lucan, Ireland) finished shortly behind in second place with a personal record of 13:44.28.
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand), who ran unattached, finished in 13:52.74.
Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland) also set a personal record of 13:59.07.
DJ Principe (Johnston, R.I.) took the 3,000-meter race in a time of 8:06.52. Following Principe was
Jacob Hefele (Danbury, Conn.) in 8:34.16 and
Grady Satterfield (Bowdoinham, Maine) in 8:35.24.
In the mile,
Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand) finished fifth in 4:02.08.
Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) won the 400 meters in a time of 48.63.
William Rainey (San Jose, Calif.) tied his 200-meter personal record of 23.05, for a third place finish.
In the 800 meters,
Josh Lewin (West Chester, Pa.) also tabbed a first-place finish in a time of 1:49.98.
Tim Dolan (Cinnaminson, N.J.) followed with a personal record of 1:51.53 for fourth place.
On the women's side,
Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand) won the 800 meters after she set a personal, facility and program record in the event of 2:05.
Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ireland) and
Halle Atkinson (Franklin, Mass.) followed in times of 2:08.39 and 2:10.10, respectively.
Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) ran a 4:36.89 for first place in the mile.
Tessa Hunt (Wellington, New Zealand) was seventh with a time of 4:56.71.
Claire Kelly (Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y.) placed second in her heat with a personal record of 5:01.61.
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland) took the 3,000-meter race with a personal and facility record of 9:09.78.
Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) finished close behind (second place) in a time of 9:35.98.
Orla O'Connor ran the 5,000 meters in a time of 16:41.02 for second place.
Nicole Borowiec (Morristown, N.J.) won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14:56.
Britton Miller (Tallahassee, Fla.) and
Charlotte Cousins (Madbury, N.H.) followed in 15.79 and 15.92, respectively.
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) placed second (1:02.24) in the 400-meter hurdles.
Hawa Grear (Providence, R.I.) placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.77. Following Grear was
Ava Russell (Babylon, N.Y.) in 13.19,
Elena Cabral (Somerset, Mass.) in 13.21 and
Emme Conan (Skaneateles, N.Y.) in 13.46.
Taylor Newman (Old Tappan, N.J.),
Hawa Grear and
Elena Cabral raced in the 200 meters. Newman finished in a time of 26.51 while Grear ran a 26.56. Cabral set a personal record of 26.72.
