Marcelo Rocha was the 10,000-meter champion.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Providence College track teams competed in the first two days of the Penn Relays on Thursday, April 27 and Friday, April 28. Marcelo Rocha was the 10,000-meter champion.

Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) was the highlight of day one for the Friars with an impressive first place finish (28:53.41) in the 10,000 meters. David McGlynn (Waterford, Ireland) followed with a personal record of 28:59.86 for second place and Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland) in fourth with a personal record of 29:22.84. 

Orla O'Connor (Waterford, Ireland) ran a personal record of 34:33.43 in the 10,000 meters for a fifth-place finish. 

Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Canada) ran the 5,000 meters in a time of 15:56.57, marking a personal record and securing third place. 

On the second day of competition, the distance medley relay team of Tim Dolan (Cinnaminson, N.J.), Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.), Josh Lewin (West Chester, Pa.), and Zane Powell (Auckland, New Zealand) placed fifth in a time of 9:44.50. 

The team of Kimberley May (Auckland, New Zealand), Niamh Gowing (Dublin, Irelamd), Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ireland) and Shannon Flockhart (Longstanton, England) competed in the Championship of America Distance Medley Relay. Finishing in a time of 11:00.03, the team set a program record and placed sixth overall. 

The Friars return for the final day of competition tomorrow, April 29 with the College Women's 4x1500 Championship of America at 12:40 p.m.
