PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated Temple, 2-0, in BIG EAST Conference action on Friday, Oct. 6 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars improved to 6-5 overall (1-3 BIG EAST), while Temple dropped to 6-6 (1-3 BIG EAST).
1ST QUARTER:
• The Friars jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:08 into the match.
Florencia Talarico fed a deep pass to
Celia Preveza, who was all alone inside the circle. Preveza got the goalkeeper to commit and sent a shot over the goal line into the left of the cage.
• Temple outshot Providence 2-1 in the opening quarter and held a 2-0 edge in penalty corners.
2ND QUARTER:
• The Friars took a two-goal advantage with just 39-seconds left in the quarter, during a penalty corner. It marked their first offensive corner of the game.

Ally DeCoste was credited with the goal as she fired an initial shot on cage, which was saved. She picked up her own rebound and beat the Temple goalkeeper for her third tally of the season.
• Temple outshot Providence 3-2 in the second quarter and also held a 2-1 edge in corners.
• For the first half, Providence put all three of its shots on target, scoring on two of them. Temple attempted five shots in the half, and all were off target.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence outshot Temple 5-1 in the third quarter and held a 2-1 edge in corners, but neither team was able to find the back of the cage.
4TH QUARTER:
• The fourth quarter was scoreless as the Friars held on for a 2-0 victory.
• Temple led in shots (4-1) and penalty corners (4-2).

Asia Porter registered three of her four saves in the fourth quarter.
NOTES:
• The Friars recorded their fifth shutout of the season.
•
Asia Porter was credited with the victory after posting four saves. It marked her third solo shutout of the season and has combined for two others.
• Preveza's scored her second game-winning goal of the season and now has four goals overall.
• DeCoste has scored a goal in three of the Friars' last five games.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars return to action on Sunday, Oct. 8 against Queens University of Charlotte. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Lennon Family Field.
• The game serves as the backdrop for the program's annual Alumnae Day and its Pink Out Friartown game to support funding and awareness for cancer research.
