PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College Track and Field teams competed at the Brown Springtime Invitational on Sunday, May 1. Twelve Friars found first place finishes at the event.
Alex O'Neill (Ennis, Ireland) highlighted the meet for Providence with her performance in the 800-meters. O'Neill finishing time of 2:06.07 broke the long-standing Providence College program record, set in 1990 by Geraldine Nolan in Athens, Greece (2:06.98). O'Neill's finish time places her in a likely position to qualify for the first round of the NCAA Championships. O'Neill was followed by
Halle Atkinson (Franklin, Mass.) who claimed second-place in 2:08.14.
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) finished first in the 400-meters in a time of 57.60.
Ashley Foley (Franklin, Mass,) finished first for the Friars in the 3,000-meter steeple in 11:23.68. The team of
Hawa Grear (Providence, R.I.),
Taylor Newman (Old Tappan, N.J.),
Emme Conan (Skanteateles, N.Y.) and
Nicola Calabrese (North Babylon, N.Y.) also finished first in the 4x100 meter relay in 48.77.
On the men's side,
Brett Lehman (Lower Gwynedd, Penn.) placed first in the 400-meters (48.85) and second in the 200-meters (22.58).
Josh Lewin (West Chester, Penn.) claimed a first-place finish in the 800-meters, finishing in a time of 1:49.27.
Liam Back (New Plymouth, New Zealand) and
Ryan Jendzejec (Chappaqua, N.Y.) also raced in the event, finishing in 1:51.36 and 1:51.61, respectively. Lewin's finish time places him in a likely position to qualify for the first round of the NCAA Championships.
Michael Morgan (Sligo, Ireland) tabbed another first place finish for the Friars in the 1,500-meters. Morgan finished in 3:47.41 while fellow Friar
Ian Russ (East Aurora, N.Y.) finished in 4:16.11.
Shane Coffey (Naas, Ireland) and
David Rosas (Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.) placed first (8:17.24) and second place (8:20.95), respectively, in the 3,000-meters.
In the 400-meter hurdles,
Sam Lagan (Natick, Mass.) placed first in a time of 59.60.
Providence will next compete at the BIG EAST Championships on May 13 and 14. In Storrs, Conn.
