Meg Hughes Named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Freshmen Best XI Second Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's soccer forward Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Freshman Best XI Second Team announced on Monday (May 24).
 
Hughes appeared in all 12 games for the Friars and cracked the starting lineup four times. She led the Friars in points (14), assists (six) and tied for the team lead in goals (four). On March 28th against Seton Hall, Hughes tallied a season-high five points on one goal and three assists. Hughes ended the regular-season ranked among the top-10 in five different statistical categories in the BIG EAST. Hughes ranked second in assists per game (.50), overall assists (six) and shot accuracy (.625). Additionally, she finished fifth in total points (14) and seventh in points per game (1.17). 
 
For her efforts, Hughes was named 2021 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. Additionally, she was named to the 2021 All-BIG EAST Second Team and the 2021 All-Freshman Team. Hughes is the second player in program history to earn BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. Shelby Hogan '20 was the first, when she won the award in 2017. Hughes also earned United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Second Team accolades.
