PROVIDENCE COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER | 2021 SEASON REVIEW

RECORD: 10-7-3 (5-3-2 BIG EAST, Fifth Place)
• The Friars finished with a 10-7-3 overall record and a 5-3-2 mark in BIG EAST regular season play during the 2021 season. Providence finished fifth in the final BIG EAST standings. The team advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament for the seventh time in the last eight years.
• Providence played at the No. 4 seeded St. John's Red Storm in the BIG EAST Quarterfinal. Fifth-year Amber Birchwell (Mastic, N.Y.) scored the game-tying goal in the 78th minute to force overtime (1-1). The Friars fell short in overtime as the Red Storm scored the golden goal in the 91st minute.
•The Friars earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history and first since 1993. Providence fell to Hofstra, 3-0, in the First Round on Nov. 13.
• The Friars had three players on their roster finish the season ranked among the Friars All-Time Scoring Leaders, accumulating over 25 points.
• Fifth-year Hannah McNulty (Warwick, R.I.) tallied eight points on two goals and four assists on the season to give her 64 career points. McNulty ranks third for the Friars all-time, passing Eileen Farren who has held the position of third place since 1990.
•Amber Birchwell tallied 13 points on four goals and a team best five assists. She concluded her career with 46 points, ranking ninth among the program's all-time scoring leaders.
•Sophomore Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) was the team's leading scorer in points (22), goals (nine) and tied for second in assists (four). She owns 36 career points and is tied for 17th among the program's all-time scoring leaders.
•Providence held a record of 7-1-1 on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in 2021. Additionally, Providence outscored its opponents, 22-5 at home. The Friars never allowed more than one goal on Chapey Field.
• Four Friars recorded double-digit points on the season. Along with Birchwell and Hughes, freshman Gillian Kenney (Hanover, Mass.) ended the season with 12 points on four goals and four assists. Sophomore Kyla Gallagher (Farmington, Conn.) accumulated 10 points on four goals and two assists.
• Meg Hughes ended the regular season ranked inside the top-10 in six different statistical categories in the BIG EAST. Hughes ranked third in goals (nine) and goals per game (0.50), fifth in points (22) and points per game (1.22). She also ranked first in shots (70) and shots per game (3.89).
• Five Friars earned postseason BIG EAST accolades. Meg Hughes was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Alexis Rothmann and Avery Snead were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. Gillian Kenney and Maria Paveglio received BIG EAST All-Freshman Team honors.
•Hughes and Rothmann were named to the United Soccer Coaches' All-East Region Second Team on November 30.
•Three Friars earned New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-New England honors. Birchwell and Hughes received First Team honors and Snead received Second Team honors.
