Providence College Women’s Soccer Earns NCAA Tournament Bid

The Friars return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1993.


PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
The Providence College women's soccer team earned an at-large selection to the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship. The Friars will travel to Hofstra University for the First Round match-up. The date and time of the game has not been released.  
 
The Friars will be returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1993. Head Coach Sam Lopes will be making his first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In 1993, the Friars fell to the University of Massachusetts in the First Round.
 
Providence enters the NCAA Tournament with a 10-6-3 overall record. The team finished fifth (5-3-2) in the BIG EAST Conference final standings. The Friars fell to No. 4 St. John's in the First Round of the BIG EAST Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 31. The Friars are one of five BIG EAST Teams to make this year's tournament field. It's the most BIG EAST Teams to qualify for the NCAA Tournament since 2010.
 
Hofstra enters the tournament with a 16-3-1 overall record. The Pride earned the Colonial Athletic Association's (CAA) automatic bid after winning the CAA title on Sunday, Nov. 7.
