NEW YORK, N.Y. – The BIG EAST announced its annual women's soccer awards today (Nov. 1). Providence was well-represented earning five All- BIG EAST Selections.
Sophomore
Meg Hughes (Rochester, Mass.) was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Prior to the start of this season, she was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Last season, Hughes was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year and was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team and All-Freshman Team. Hughes appeared in all 19 games for the Friars. She led the Friars in points (22), goals (9) and tied for second in assists (4). She had a point in 11 out of 19 matches, including a two-goal game against Monmouth on Sept. 5 for a season high of four points. Hughes concluded the regular season ranked in the top-10 in six different statistical categories in the conference. She ranks third in goals (nine) and goals per game (0.50), fifth in points (22) and points per game (1.22). She also ranks first in shots (70) and shots per game (3.89). Hughes earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week twice this season (Sept. 6, Oct. 11).
Junior
Alexis Rothmann (Norwell, Mass.) earned All-BIG EAST Second Team Honors. In 2019, she was named to the All-Freshman Team and last season she earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors. Rothmann played a pivotal role for the Friars in the midfield starting in all 19 games she appeared in. She scored her first collegiate goal against Stony Brook on Sept. 2.
Sophomore
Avery Snead (Wrentham, Mass.) earned All-BIG EAST Second Team Honors with Rothmann. Last season, Snead was named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team. Snead played a critical role in the Friars defense this season, appearing in the starting lineup in all 19 games for Providence. She scored two goals this season, including a game-tying goal against UConn on Oct. 21. Snead was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll back-to-back weeks this season (Oct. 25, Nov. 1).
Freshman
Gillian Kenney (Hanover, Mass) was an unanimous selection to the All-Freshman Team. Kenney was a great addition to the Friars offense this season, ending the regular season as their second leading scorer. She had 12 points on four goals and four assists, appeared in all 19 games this season and cracked the starting lineup 10 times. Kenney was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Oct. 4.
Freshman
Maria Paveglio (Lake Orion, Mich.) was named to the All-Freshman Team with Kenney. Paveglio appeared in all 19 games for the Friars, including an appearance in the starting line up in every game. She helped the Friars on defense this season and tallied five points on two goals and one assist.
All-BIG EAST Teams and major awards are voted on by the league's head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own players. All-BIG EAST First and Second Teams are comprised of three forwards, three midfielders, three defenders and one goalkeeper and one at-large selection. The BIG EAST All-Freshman Team recognizes the top-11 freshman vote earners. Extra players may be added if there was a tie in voting.
