PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team will host BIG EAST foe Temple on Friday, Oct. 8 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on FloSports.

SERIES INFORMATION:
• 11 games – Providence leads the all-time series, 6-5.
• Providence is 6-3 vs. Temple in BIG EAST regular-season play since Owls joined the league as an affiliate member in 2013.
• With the 2020 fall season canceled due to COVID-19, Providence and Temple met twice in the abbreviated spring 2021 season, splitting the series with one win each.
• March 27, Providence defeated Temple, 3-2 (2OT, SO), in a shootout (Philadelphia, Pa.).

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE (5-7, 1-2 BIG EAST):
• Providence is 5-1 at home on Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I., but has posted a 0-6 record on the road this season.
• The Friars' lone defeat at home came against VCU, 1-0, in their most recent game on Oct. 3.
• Providence will play six of its remaining seven games at home on Lennon Family Field, including three-straight beginning with the Rams on Sunday.
• Five of the Friars' seven losses have come against opponents currently ranked in the national poll (No. 13 Harvard, No. 20 UMass, No. 19 Connecticut, No. 25 Maine) or ranked at the time of play (No. 20 Monmouth).

Lisa McNamara (Barre, Vt.) and forward
Niamh Gowing (Dublin, Ireland) are tied for the team lead in scoring with 11 points each. McNamara has two goals and a team-best seven assists, while Gowing has notched four goals and three assists.
• McNamara ranks second in the BIG EAST and 24
th in the nation (among 134 players ranked) in assists per game (0.58).
• Forward
Olivia Ward (Havelock North, New Zealand) is third on the team in scoring with eight points on four goals.
• Sophomore
Asia Porter (Somerset, Mass.) has played 661 minutes in the cage for Providence and owns a 2.27 goals against average and a 0.750 save percentage.
• Porter ranks fifth in the nation among NCAA Division I goalkeepers in saves per game (6.82) and 26
th in the nation in save percentage (.750).
• Offensively, 10 different players on the roster have recorded a goal or an assist in the Friars' first 12 games.
• Junior
Nora Goddard-Despot (North Vancouver, British Columbia) was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Goddard-Despot competed for Canada at the 2021 Junior Pan American Championships (Aug. 21-29) in Santiago, Chile. The Canadians won the gold medal. After missing the Friars' first two games, she made her 2021 season debut with the Friars against Maine and Harvard.
• Fourteen of the 24 players on the Friars' roster are first and second-year players, who will embark on their first full fall season of collegiate field hockey.
• The remainder of the roster consists of two graduate students, three seniors and five juniors.
• Providence College was picked to finish fifth in the 2021 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll (20 points), sitting just ahead of Villanova in sixth (22 points).
• The Friars have qualified for 10 of the last 15 BIG EAST Tournaments. In the spring, the Friars fell short of tournament qualification, snapping a streak of four-consecutive appearances.
SCOUTING TEMPLE (6-4, 2-1 BIG EAST):
• The Owls enter the weekend with a 6-4 overall record, including a 2-1 mark in BIG EAST play.
• The Owls are 2-3 at home and 4-1 on the road.
• Two of Temples four losses have come against nationally-ranked opponents No. 9 St. Joseph's (2-0) and No. 23 Delaware (3-1)
• Each of Temple's first three BIG EAST games have been decided by one goal.
• The Owls defeated Quinnipiac, 3-2, in the conference opener on Sept. 17. The game was tied, 2-2, at the end of regulation and was followed by two scoreless overtime periods before Temple earned the victory in a shootout.
• Temple went on to defeat Villanova, 1-0, at home on Sept. 24 before falling to Georgetown, 1-0, on the road (Oct. 1).
• Julianne Kopec leads the Owls in scoring with 10 points on a team-high five goals.
• Tess Muller ranks second in scoring with 6 points (2g/2a) and Kerrie Lorenz checks in at third place with five points (2g/1a).
• Megan Ragusa has played all 636 minutes in the cage and owns a 1.13 goals against average and a 0.750 save percentage. Four of her six victories have been shutouts.
