Bo Martina Named Preseason BIG EAST Midfielder Of The Year

Martina and Carly van Benten represent the Friars on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College senior Bo Martina (Nieuw Vennep, The Netherlands) was named Preseason BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and was featured on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team as a unanimous selection. Fellow senior Carly van Benten (Ashburn, Va.) also represented the Friars on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. The league released its list of preseason award winners and honorees on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Martina earned a host of accolades following her junior campaign in 2025, including All-BIG EAST First Team, BIG EAST Co-Midfielder of the Year and NFHCA All-Northeast Region First Team. She is the first player in program history to earn BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year honors and has been featured on the All-BIG EAST First Team each of the last two seasons. Martina is one of 12 players in program history to be named to the First Team on multiple occasions.
Martina finished the 2025 season with a team-best 22 points on nine goals and four assists. Her nine goals marked a career high, and she ranked fourth in the BIG EAST in goals per game (0.53) and sixth in points per game (1.29). Through three seasons, she ranks 34th all-time in career scoring at Providence with 46 points (204 players ranked), 33rd in goals (16) and 28th in assists (14).
Van Benten had a break-out season in 2025, which culminated in All-BIG EAST Second-Team accolades. She finished third on the team in scoring with 18 points on five goals and a team-best eight assists. Each of her offensive totals marked single-season career highs. Van Benten tallied a season-high three points in two games vs. Merrimack (Sept. 7) and New Hampshire (Sept. 14), tallying one goal and one assist in each contest.
The Friars open the 2026 season on Friday, Aug. 28 against Boston College. The match is slated for 3:00 p.m. in Newton, Mass. Providence will return to Lennon Family Field to host Boston University in its home opener on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 12:00 p.m.
