Field Hockey To Host No. 7 UConn And UMass Lowell On Homecoming Weekend

Friars kick off the action on Friday, Oct. 2 against No. 7 UConn at 3:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team is set to host a pair of matches during the College's annual Homecoming Weekend, beginning Friday, Oct. 2 when the Friars host No. 7 UConn during BIG EAST play at 3:00 p.m. The team will close the weekend with a non-conference match against UMass Lowell on Sunday, Oct. 4 at Noon. Both games will be played on Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (8-2, 2-0 BIG EAST):
• Providence College enters the weekend with a 8-2 record, including a 2-0 mark in BIG EAST play.
• The Friars have played each of their last seven games on the road. During that stretch, they posted a 6-1 mark. 
• This weekend, Providence begins a six-game home stand at Lennon Family Field. Providence is 2-0 at home this season. The Friars last played at home on Sept. 4, which culminated in a 11-0 victory against New Haven.
• Senior Lily Procaccianti leads the offense with 15 points on seven goals and one assist.
• Senior Carly van Benten ranks second in points (12) and goals (six). She has scored a goal in each of the last three games, including back-to-back game-winning goals against Georgetown and American last weekend.
• Fourteen different players have scored at least one goal through eight games, including eight players who have scored multiple goals.
• Martu Torre Festa, Johanna Mahner and Bo Martina are tied for third in scoring with eight points each. Torre Festa has tallied two goals and four assists. Mahner has recorded one goal and a team-best six assists, while Martina checks in with three goals and two assists.
• The Friars were on a six-game win streak before falling to Brown, 4-3, in overtime on Sept. 20. It marked the longest win streak in a single season since 2006. That year, Providence rattled off six-consecutive wins on two occasions during the season.
• Additionally, Providence also had won three-straight road games prior to its loss at Brown. It marked the longest stretch of consecutive road wins in a single season since 2018.
• Providence has earned four shut-out victories in games vs. New Haven (11-0) on Sept. 4 and Bryant (3-0) on Sept. 6, No. 15 Old Dominion (2-0) on Sept. 18 and Georgetown on (1-0) on Sept. 25. 
• The Friars' 11 goals vs. New Haven on Sept. 4 set a single-game program record. The previous record (nine) was set on two occasions in games against Conn College (1980) and Fairfield (1985).
• The Friars returned 97-percent of their offensive production from last season, accounting for 35 of the team's 36 goals and 30 of the team's 31 assists in 2025.
• Martina and Procaccianti each eclipsed the 20-point mark last season. Martina finished with 22 points on nine goals and four assists, while Procaccianti paced Providence with 10 goals and added one assist for 21 points.
• Procaccianti became the first player to record 10-or-more goals in a season since 2014. That year, Daniella Bernasconi (15), Megan Hamilton (15) and Steph Guglielmo (13) all recorded double-digit goals.
• Van Benten finished third on the team in scoring with 18 points on five goals and a team-best eight assists.
• Martina was named Preseason BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year on Aug. 19. She also was a unanimous selection on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
• Van Benten joined Martina on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
• Last season, Martina claimed All-BIG EAST First-Team honors and was named BIG EAST Co-Midfielder of the Year. She is the first player in program history to earn BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year honors and is one of 12 players in program history to be named to the first team in multiple seasons (2024, 2025).
• Van Benten earned All-BIG EAST Second-Team honors in 2025.
• Sophomore Ava Porter is the lone returning goalkeeper for the Friars in 2026 and is joined by graduate transfer Pauline Gineste, who spent the previous four seasons at American.
• As a freshman, Porter started 16 games for the Friars and posted an 8-8 record with two shut-out victories. She registered a 1.64 goals against average and a 0.748 save percentage.
• Gineste started 17 games last season for the Eagles and posted a 10-5 overall record, including a 6-0 mark in the Patriot League. She registered four shut-out victories, a 1.14 goals against average and a 0.767 save percentage.
• This season, Porter has played eight games and has recorded a 6-2 record with a 1.18 goals against average and a 0.690 save percentage. Gineste has played two games and owns a 2-0 record to go along with a 0.80 goals against average and a 0.714 save percentage.
• Providence has outscored its opponents 32-12 through 10 games this season, including a 3-0 margin during BIG EAST play.
 
SCOUTING NO. 7 CONNECTICUT (7-1, 2-0 BIG EAST):
• UConn enters the weekend with a 7-1 overall record, including a 2-0 mark in BIG EAST play.
• The Huskies have won four-straight games, including three victories against nationally ranked teams.
• Providence is 4-1 this season versus nationally ranked opponents.
• UConn's only loss of the season came against then-No. 3 Harvard, 1-0, on Sept. 6.
• Freshman forward Lucy Zich leads Connecticut's offense with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. She has scored or assisted on 45-percent of the Huskies' 22 goals overall.
• Zich leads the BIG EAST and ranks ninth in NCAA Division I in goals per game (1.00). She ranks second in the league and 13th in NCAA Division I in points per game (2.25).
• Ellie Goldstein and Milou Heuker have each scored eight points this season. Goldstein ranks second on the team in goals (six),while Heuker has logged one goal and a team-best six assists.
• Abby Davidson rounds out the list of multi-goal scorers through eight games, with three, and she has added one assist.
• Natalie McKenna has played every minute in goal for UConn (540) and has compiled a 1.00 goals against average and a 0.690 save percentage. Two of her seven wins have been shutouts.
 
SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL (5-4):
• UMass Lowell enters the weekend with a 5-4 overall record and will face Bryant in America East action on Friday, Oct. 2 before making its way to Providence on Sunday.
• To date, the River Hawks are 4-0 at home in Lowell, Mass. and 1-4 in games played on the road.
• Three of UMass Lowell's five losses came at the hands of nationally ranked opponents.
• Last weekend, UMass Lowell defeated Stonehill (4-1) and Brown (2-0).
• Alexa Guarneri and Alice van Hemelen are tied for the team lead in scoring with 12 points each. Guarneri has recorded a team-best six goals. Van Hemelen has tallied five goals and two assists.
• Guarneri has scored her six goals on just eight shot attempts.
• Audrey Carter is third on the team in scoring with 10 points on four goals and two assists. 
• Veerle Mous and Megan Macmiller have split time in goal for the River Hawks this season. Mous owns a 3-2 overall record to go along with a 1.53 goals against average and a 0.696 save percentage. Macmiller is 2-2 on the season and has compiled a 1.50 goals against average and a 0.696 save percentage.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars will continue their six-game home stand next weekend with a non-conference match against Holy Cross on Sunday, Oct. 11. The game is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
