PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated cross-city rival Brown, 2-0, on Oct. 17 in Providence, R.I.
1ST QUARTER:
• The game was scoreless (0-0) after the opening 15 minutes of action.
• Brown led in shots (6-4), shots on goal (4-3) and penalty corners (4-0).
• Niahm Gowing attempted three of the Friars' four shots, two of which were on target.
•
Asia Porter registered four saves in the opening quarter, while Jodie Brine posted three saves.
2ND QUARTER:
• The two teams battled through a scoreless second quarter and the game remained tied (0-0).
• Providence outshot the Bears, 3-2, and held a 3-0 edge in corners.
• The Friars' third corner came with three seconds left on the game clock, but
Amanda Collins' shot from the left of the circle was saved by Brine.
3RD QUARTER:
• Providence scored two goals in the third quarter to take a 2-0 lead.
• Gowing earned the first tally of the day and her fifth goal of the season on a tip-in, assisted by
Lisa McNamara. It marked McNamara's team-best eighth assist of the year.

Nora Goddard-Despot found the back of the cage at 42:52 as she deflected the ball over the line at the left post. Gowing was credited with the assist.
• Both goals scored by the Friars came off penalty corner opportunities.
• Brown held the advantage in shots (3-2) and corners (4-1) in the frame, but the Friars capitalized on both of their attempts.
4TH QUARTER:
• Brown outshot the Friars 2-1 in the final quarter and Providence registered the only penalty corner.
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS:
• The match marked the 39
th meeting between the two programs dating back to 1982.
• The Friars improved to 27-10-2 all-time against the Bears.
• Brown has not earned a victory over the Friars since 2014.
• Porter finished the game with six saves for her first shut-out victory of the season.
• Brine completed the day with four saves in net for Brown.
WHAT'S NEXT:
• The Friars will head to Lynchburg, Va. to face No. 9 Liberty in BIG EAST action on Friday, Oct. 22. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
• Providence will close the regular-season schedule the following weekend with a pair of home games against Quinnipiac (Oct. 29) and Dartmouth (Oct. 31).
• The Friars' match against Dartmouth will serve as the program's annual senior day. Prior to the game the team will honor its graduate students and seniors.
