PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team fell to UConn in four sets. The Friars won the first set (25-20) before falling to the Huskies in the remaining three sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-21). The Friars fall to 13-7 overall (1-6 BIG EAST) and the Huskies improve to 13-6 (5-2 BIG EAST).
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Providence held the lead for the entirety of the set after jumping out to a 6-2 lead in the beginning of the set. The Huskies brought it within two at 17-15, but the Friars ultimately won the set 25-20.
Emma Fink (Western Springs, Ill.) tallied a set-high six kills on 10 total attacks (.600).
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) had a set-high 14 assists.
Fink and
Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) led the defensive end for the Friars with three digs each.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: The Huskies claimed the second set, 25-18, with help from a 9-0 run mid-set.
Fink tallied a team-high four kills.
Barber recorded six assists.
Caroline LaMacchia (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Barber each had five digs in the second set.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: After 14 tied scores and six lead changes in the third set, UConn pulled out the victory, 25-22.
Fink led the Friar offense yet again with five kills on nine total attacks (.556).
Barber recorded all 14 assists for the Friars .
Jiji Lykins (Virgina Beach, Va.) and LaMacchia held tied for team-high in digs, with six each.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS: After another back-and-forth set, UConn claimed the fourth set, 25-21.
Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) had a set-high four kills on nine total attacks.
Barber led the Friars with eight assists with a team-high five digs.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
Fink paced the Friar offense with a match-high 17 kills on 37 total attacks. Fink was the only other Friar with double-digit kills.
Barber tallied a match-high 42 assists.
LaMacchia and Barber tied for a team-high with 15 digs each.
As a team, the Friars had 46 kills on 157 total attacks, 68 digs, 45 assists and three total team blocks.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars will host Creighton University on Sunday, Oct. 17 in Alumni Hall at 1:00 p.m.
