Volleyball Travels To UConn Before Hosting Creighton

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  The Providence College volleyball team is set travel to Storrs, Conn. to match up against the UConn Huskies on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 5:30 p.m. before hosting the Creighton Bluejays at home in Alumni Hall on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1:00 p.m.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Providence College Friars head into the matches with an overall record of 13-6 and a BIG EAST record of 1-5. Providence most recently faced Marquette University and DePaul University on Oct. 8-10. The Friars dropped both matches at home.
 
Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) has been the key player for the Friars' attack, tallying a team-high 246 kills over the season. Rhoden ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in kills per set (3.67). The freshman also ranks third in the BIG EAST in hitting percentage (.375).
 
Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) has also contributed to the Friar offense, ranking second in the BIG EAST in services aces per set (0.65). Leitman recorded a team-high nine kills during last weekends match versus DePaul.
 
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) has been the setter for the Friars this season with 691 total assists. Barber's 9.73 assists per set rank fourth in the BIG EAST. She has also contributed the second most digs on the team (204). 
 
Senior Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.), the Friars' defensive specialist, has also been a key player for the Friars. Taylor leads Providence in digs, recording 220 and her 3.21 digs per set ranks tenth in the BIG EAST. She haws also added 61 assists and 23 service aces for the Friars.
 
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: Connecticut enters the weekend with a 12-6 overall record, including a 4-2 mark in the BIG EAST. The Huskies split last weekends matches 1-1, with a win at Villanova (3-1) and a loss at Georgetown (1-3).
 

Caylee Parker leads the Huskies' offensive attack, with 200 recorded kills andan average of 3.13 kills per set, ranking tenth in the BIG EAST.
 
She is the primary focus for any defense, as she has recorded a team-high 594 total attacks, while the next highest total attempts belong to Jasmine Davis, with 495 total attacks (2.70 kills per set).
 
McKayla Wuensch is UConn's primary setter, having recorded 491 assists, andf ranks seventh in the BIG EAST in assists per set (8.25).
 
Karly Berkland leads the Huskies in digs (270) followed by Wuensch (162) and Davis (154).  

 
SCOUTING THE NO. 19 BLUEJAYS: The No. 19 Creighton Bluejays have an overall record of 17-2 and 5-1 in the BIG EAST, ranking first in conference standings. Creighton last played against DePaul and Marquette on Oct. 8-10. The Bluejays went 2-0 that weekend, beating both teams in straight sets.
 
Jaela Zimmerman has been the offensive threat for Creighton, recording 255 kills. Norah Sis and Naomi Hickman have contributed to the Bluejays' attack with 225 and 98 kills, respectively. Sis' and Zimmerman's 4.58 and 4.00 kills per set ranks them first and third in the BIG EAST.
 
Kenda Wait has been the Bluejays' setter for the season. She has totaled 682 assists and her 11.42 assists per set ranks first in the BIG EAST. 
 
Abby Bottomley has led the defense for the Bluejays tallying 335 digs and her 4.42 digs per set ranks seventh in the BIG EAST. Zimmerman and Wait have contributed to Creighton's defense with 202 and 192 digs, respectively. 
 
On the defensive front line, Naomi Hickman and Wait lead the Bluejays' in blocks (77 and 61). Hickman is ranked fourth in the BIG EAST.
