NEW YORK, N.Y.- Providence College men's lacrosse goalie
Toby Burgdorf (Westfield, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference on today, Feb. 17. This was Burgdorf's second-consecutive week receiving the honors, this one coming after his performance in the 16-9 Ocean State Cup victory over Bryant on Saturday, Feb. 15.
Burgdorf has started his career 3-0 in net for the Friars this season. He registered a career-high 15 saves in the win over Bryant with seven in the fourth quarter. Burgdorf held a .625 save percentage in the game and picked up one ground ball.
Burgdorf currently ranks first in the BIG EAST in save percentage (.679) and saves per game (12.67). Burgdorf's save percentage puts him fifth in the NCAA and his saves per game ranks 20
th. Burgdorf is second in the conference and sixth in the nation in goals-against average (6.00).
Up next, the 3-0 Providence College Friars, who are receiving votes in the USILA Coaches Poll and the Maverik Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday, Feb. 22 to take on the Saint Joseph's Hawks. Face-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
