PROVIDENCE, R.I. – It was announced on Nov. 12 by Providence College women's volleyball Head Coach
Margot Royer-Johnson that two student-athletes have signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in September 2021. Shaliyah Rhoden (Rowlett, Texas) and Niah Tucker (Wylie, Texas) will compete for the Friars in 2021.
Rhoden is a 5' 9" outside hitter and defensive specialist from Rowlett, Texas. Rhoden was named Offensive Player of the Year and MVP at Sachse High School. She also is a member of the Madfrog Volleyball Club. Rhoden has numerous accolades from her time in high school, having received First-Team All-District and Academic All-District all four years. Over the course of her career, Rhoden has recorded over 1,000 kills.
"Shaliyah is a great get for us! She's super agile and a great jumper," said Coach
Margot Royer-Johnson. "Her speed will help us in the outside hitter position. We can't wait to work with her here at PC!"
Tucker, a 6' 0" middle blocker, is joining the Friars from Wylie High School (Texas). She is a member of the Dallas Premier Volleyball Club. Tucker was named Second Team All-District in 2018 and First Team All-League in 2019. She guided her team to the UIL Texas High School playoffs in back-to-back seasons (2018, 2019). Tucker also achieved Academic All-District distinctions from 2017-2020. She has tallied 430 kills and 202 blocks throughout her varsity career.
"Niah is someone we found a bit late in the recruitment cycle and we couldn't be happier with what we see in her," said Coach Royer-Johnson. "Her ceiling is very high as she transitions very well from blocker to hitter and she reaches super high. She will be exciting to work with."
