PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College's
Elayna Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.) received BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition on Sept. 2. This marks the first time the sophomore has been recognized in the BIG EAST Weekly Awards. Providence posted a 1-1 record on the week after defeating Hartford on Aug. 29 (1-0) and falling on the road to Rutgers on Sept. 1 (1-0).
Grillakis scored the game-winning goal in the Friars' 1-0 win against Hartford. The goal marked the second of her career and first penalty kick goal in a Friar uniform. Katelyn Vieria (Warwick, R.I.) was fouled inside the 18-yard box, rewarding Providence with a penalty kick in the first minute of overtime. Grillakis stepped up and slotted the penalty kick for Providence's first overtime win since the team's final regular season game in 2018 against Creighton, resulting in a 3-2 win on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. Grillakis posted four shots against Hartford, including three on frame. She added one shot against Rutgers.
