PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team defeated the Coppin State Eagles 3-1 for their second victory of 15
th Annual Friar Volleyball Classic.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS- Coppin State won the first set, 25-21. The Friars went on a 7-0 run late in the set but could not clinch the set.
Emma Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) and
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.)led the attack with three kills apiece.
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) tallied eight assists for the Friars.
Caroline LaMacchia (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and
Natalie Benson (Bradley, Ill.) led the defense recording three digs, respectively.
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS- Friars took the second set, 25-15. After the score was tied on three occasions early in the set, the Friars went on a 6-0 run. They continued to pull away to win the set.
Nelson and Root continued to lead the Friars attack recording three kills each.
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) recorded three kills on five total attacks with a .600 hitting percentage.
Barber tallied a set-high eight assists.
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) registered a set-high eight digs.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS- Providence came back in the set to win, 25-19.
Root tallied a set-high five kills on nine total attacks with a .444 hitting percentage.
Barber recorded a set-high 12 assists.
Root led the Friars in digs (4) with assistance from Taylor who registered three digs.
FOURTH SET HIGHLIGHTS- The Friars dominated the fourth set to win 25-18.
Nelson tallied a set-high five kills on nine total attacks with a .444 hitting percentage.
Barber recorded a set-high 11 assists.
Root, Barber and Taylor each tallied four digs respectively to assist the Friars' defense.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
As a team, the Friars recorded 51 kills on 126 total attacks, 58 digs and 46 assists.
Root and Nelson each recorded a match-high 14 kills to lead the Friars attack.
Nelson tallied 14 kills to best her previous career high of seven.
Barber recorded a double-double recording 39 assists and 11 digs.
Taylor led the Providence defense with 16 digs.
