Durham N.H.-Â The Providence College volleyball team (1-0) defeated Saint Peter's University (0-1) in three sets (3-0) on Friday, Aug. 28, in its first match of the Holly Young Invitational.
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Friars won the first set, 25-21.
- Providence battled evenly to tie at 6-6.
- The two teams traded points to make the score 11-11.
- The Friars took a timeout trailing 14-15.
- Both teams continued to trade points to make the score 19-19.
- The Friars went on a four-point run to take the lead (23-19).
- Providence closed the set, 25-21.Â
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â Providence took the second set, 25-21, for a 2-0 lead.
- Both teams traded points early in the set to tie 7-7.
- The Friars went on a 5-0 run to make the score 15-9.
- Providence maintained the lead and built a 23-19 advantage.
- Senior Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas) closed out the set with a service ace to give the Friars a 25-21 win.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS:Â The Friars won the set, 25-16, and swept the match, 3-0.
- The Friars took an early 4-1 lead.
- Senior Lyric Berry (Wylie, Texas) extended the lead to 9-4 with a kill.Â
- The Peacocks called a timeout after a five-point scoring run by the Friars.
- The Friars continued to grow the lead, And claimed a 19-9 advantage
- Providence took a timeout after a five-point response from the Peacocks.
- Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) ended the set with a kill to make the final score 25-16.
MATCH NOTES:
- Adkins led the team with 17 kills to secure the victory.Â
- Taylor recorded two service aces.
- Senior Miller McDonald racked up 30 assists.
- The Friars notched 34 kills, 41 digs and nine total team blocks.Â

WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars will close out the weekend at the Holly Young Invitational with a double header (Aug. 29) against the University of New Haven at 11 a.m. and the University of New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
