Volleyball Set To Open 2026 Season At The Holly Young Invitational On Friday

The Friars will face Saint Peter’s University, University of New Haven and University of New Hampshire at Durham N.H. to open the season.

Durham, N.H. -  The Providence College volleyball team will begin its 2026 season at the Holly Young Invitational in Durham, N.H. The Friars will open the tournament on Aug. 28th with one match against Saint Peter's at 3:00 p.m. On Aug. 29th, Providence will play two matches against New Haven at 12:00 p.m. and New Hampshire at 7:00 p.m.
 

SCOUTING THE FRIARS… Providence finished the 2025 season with a 12-17 record, including a 3-13 BIG EAST record. The Friars are returning 11 players from last year's roster, and added six newcomers. Highlighting the returning core are seniors Miller McDonald (Dallas, Texas), Lyric Berry (Wylie, Texas) and Macy Taylor (Rowlett, Texas), as well as junior Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio). McDonald started all 29 matches and led the team in assists (537), ranked third on the team in service aces (37) and fifth in digs (189). Berry led the team in blocks (126.0), which ranked her second in the BIG EAST. Taylor ranked second in kills (259) and fourth in digs (210). Adkins was awarded BIG EAST Honor Roll three times last season. She led the team in kills (374), was second in digs (230) and service aces (43) and ranked fifth in blocks (49.0).
 

SCOUTING SAINT PETER'S... The Peacocks finished their 2025 season with a 7-22 overall record and a 2-16 mark in the Metro Conference (formerly the MAAC). A key player returning to the Peacocks is Sibana Gonzalez Acevedo, who led the team in kills (252) and ranked third on the team in digs (187) during the 2025 season.  
 

SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE… The Wildcats finished their 2025 season with a 9-14 overall record and a 3-7 conference mark in the America East. A key player returning to the Wildcats is Lucy Chertock, who was named America East Rookie of the Year last season after totaling 274 kills. 
 

SCOUTING NEW HAVEN… The Chargers finished their 2025 season with a 5-22 overall record and finished 4-12 in the Northeast Conference (NEC). Key returner, Payton Malinoski, led the team in sets played (100) and service aces (18) in 2025. A defensive specialist in the backcourt, she also finished second in assists (106).
 

WHAT'S NEXT: The Friars will return to action next weekend (Sept. 4-6) at the Ocean State Cup in Kingston R.I. The Friars will face off against Brown on Friday, Sept. 4 at 4:00 p.m. Providence will play Bryant on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 1:00 p.m. and close out the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 3:00 p.m. against Rhode Island.
