Men's Hockey Releases 2019-20 Schedule

PROVIDENCE, R.I.Coming off its second Frozen Four appearance in five seasons, the Providence College men's hockey team unveiled its schedule for the upcoming 2019-20 campaign. Seven contests against NCAA Tournament teams from 2019, an exhibition against the U.S. National Team Development Program and two midseason tournaments highlight the schedule.
 
The Friars, coming off their program-record sixth-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, will begin a three-game cycle against four Hockey East opponents – Maine, Northeastern, UConn and UMass Lowell. Two games will be played against the remaining six Hockey East opponents.
 
Providence jumps right into Hockey East play with the season opener against Maine on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Schneider Arena. Columbus Day weekend sees the Friars hosting Holy Cross (Oct. 11) and the U.S. National Team Development Program (Oct. 12) prior to a three-game road swing to St. Lawrence (Oct. 18), Clarkson (Oct. 19) and Boston College (Oct. 25). The Friars return home the following evening to host UMass Lowell (Oct. 26) in the first of two contests between the schools at Schneider Arena.
 
November kicks off with a weekend homestand against Colgate (Nov. 1) and Boston College (Nov. 2). The Friars continue conference play with home-and-home series against Boston University (Nov. 8-9), Northeastern (Nov. 15-16) and UConn (Nov. 22-23). The 34th Annual Mayor's Cup against Brown will be held at Schneider Arena on Saturday, Nov. 30.
 
The first half of the season closes out with a home-and-home series against UMass Lowell from Dec. 6-7. Providence opens post-holiday break at the 2019 Catamount Cup hosted by the University of Vermont from Dec. 28-29. After the calendar turns to 2020, the Friars will take part in the third edition of the Ice Vegas Invitational held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. from Jan. 3-4. All matchups for the midseason tournaments will be announced at a later date.
 
The non-conference slate concludes on Jan. 9 against American International at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass. The Friars matchup against UConn for the third time on Saturday, Jan. 11 before facing off against New Hampshire in a home-and-home series from Jan. 17-18. After an idle weekend, Providence will travel to Northeastern on Jan. 31.
 
The Friars and the Minutemen of UMass will clash in a battle of 2019 Frozen Four participants in a home-and-home series from Feb. 7-8 before Providence makes another trip to Burlington for a two-game set against Vermont from Feb. 14-15. February rounds out with a home-and-home set against Merrimack from Feb. 21-22 and a home game against Maine on Feb. 29.
 
Providence concludes the regular season schedule with against the Black Bears in Orono, Maine on Friday, Mar 6.
 
The best-of-three Hockey East Quarterfinals take place at campus sites from March 13-15, followed by the Hockey East Semifinals (March 20) and Championship (March 21). The NCAA Regionals begin March 27 with the 2019-20 college hockey season culminating at the Frozen Four in Detroit, Mich. from April 9-11.
