PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Recent Providence College men's lacrosse graduates
Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.),
Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.),
Colin Keating (Ridgewood, N.J.) and
David Procopio (Syracuse, N.Y.) were named to the NEILA All-Academic Team on May 28.
In order to be selected for the team, a student-athlete must have achieved senior academic standing and hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Additionally, the nominee must be a significant contributor on the field, having at least earned consideration for All-Conference selection.
Boyce, a marketing major, departed Providence College as the most decorated player in program history. During his career with the Friars, he was a four-time All-BIG EAST First-Team selection and two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year. He is the only player in program history to earn All-Conference First-Team recognition each season of his four-year career. He also is the first player to earn Goalkeeper of the Year recognition in multiple seasons.
Boyce is the first player in program history to be named to the Tewaaraton Watch List and was featured among the nation's top lacrosse players on the list in back-to-back seasons (2018 and 2019). Additionally, he is one of four players in program history to earn USILA Division I All-America honors, having been named an Honorable Mention in 2019 and to the Third Team in 2017. The goalkeeper, who recently earned a spot on the Senior CLASS Award All-America Second Team, was signed to the Boston Cannons of the MLL on May 13.
Kearns, a finance major from Wantagh, N.Y., started all 16 games for the Friars this season. He ranked third on the team in goals (27), first in assists (19) and tied for first in points (46). He posted 13 multi-point performances and was only held off the scoresheet in one contest. Kearns was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll twice (Feb. 11, Mar. 4) and was drafted 60
th overall by the New York Lizards in the Major League Lacrosse Draft.
The decorated attackman leaves Providence College ranked fifth all-time in career-points (154) and goals (94). He is also ranked 11
th all-time in assists (60) after making 63 appearances for the Friars.
Keating, a marketing major, finished his career in an impressive fashion. He scored his first career goal five seconds into overtime to help Providence defeat Villanova in the 2019 regular-season finale (9-8 OT). He added his second career goal in the BIG EAST Semifinals against Georgetown and won 15-26 face-off attempts (.577) against the Hoyas.
Keating finished the year with two goals and two assists for four points. He led the Friars in face-off attempts (218), face-off winning percentage (.518) and ground balls (53). He ranked third in the BIG EAST in face-off percentage and seventh in ground balls per game (4.08). Keating played in 34 total games as a Friar, registering four points and 113 ground balls. He posted a 233-for-452 mark at the 'X' in his four years for a .515 win percentage.
Procopio played in all 16 games for the Friars this season. The physics major from Syracuse, N.Y. registered one goal and one assist for two points on the season. His lone goal of the season came on Senior Day against Villanova (Apr. 27). Additionally, he picked up 13 ground balls and caused six turnovers.
Procopio departs Providence College after playing in 63 games and recording 19 points. The defensive midfielder will represent the Friars in the NEILA East-West All-Star Game on Friday, May 31 at Johnson & Wales University. Opening face-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
