PROVIDENCE, R.I.- It was announced on May 23 by Providence College women's volleyball Head Coach Margot-Royer Johnson that three additional student-athletes have committed to play for Providence College this coming fall.  Natalie Benson (Bourbonnais, Ill.), Jennifer Leitman (Irvine, Calif.) and Elena Leontaridou (Thessaloniki, Greece) will join five other commits as members of the 2019 Friar Volleyball team.

Benson is a 5' 5" defensive specialist from Bourbonnais, Ill. Benson is sophomore transfer from the University of Memphis. At Memphis, Benson played in 16 matches and 31 sets. She recorded 29 digs and six service aces. Benson posted six service aces against Northern Alabama (Sept. 8) assisting the Tigers in recording the most service aces (14) in an American Athletic Conference match-up. Prior to Memphis, Benson attended Bradley-Bourbonnais High School and earned two varsity letters. In her final season, Benson was named the team MVP and recorded 273 digs, 39 assists and 21 aces. She led her team to the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 4A Marist Regional Semifinal.

"Natalie is a seasoned college veteran as she saw significant court time at Memphis" said Coach Royer-Johnson. "She has a strong serve and is a very quick and determined defensive specialist. We look for her to help us in our serve receive in particular this fall."

Leitman is a 6' 1" outside hitter from Irvine, Calif. Leitman earned three varsity letters during her time at Woodbridge High School (2015-2019). She tallied 383 kills and 46 service aces throughout her varsity career. Leitman was named to the First Team All-League in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and assisted her team to the Division I CIF playoffs. Leitman also played for the Momentous Travel team alongside 2019 Friar NLI signee, Brielle Mullally.

"Jenny was a late pick up for us this spring" said Coach Royer-Johnson". "She brings a great offensive threat to our squad from both the front and back row out of the outside position. She has great chemistry with Brielle Mullally, 2019 setter signee, as she hits off of her on their 18s club team, Momentous."

Leontaridou is a 6' 1'' middle blocker from Thessaloniki, Greece. Leontaridou was a member of the Greek Junior National Team during her U17, U18 and U19 seasons. She also played for the PAOK club team from 2016-2019. During the 2018-2019 season Leontaridou led her team to a first  place finish in the U19 Pre League.

"Elena is a long and quick blocker that will help us both with the speed of our offensive game as well as our much improved defensive game" said Coach Royer-Johnson. "We see her making an immediate impact as she has played at the highest level in her home country of Greece."
