PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today [April 26] that they have added Providence College senior goalkeeper
Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) to its 2019 roster. Boyce, remains eligible to finish his senior season with the Friars and complete his undergraduate degree, and will attend training camp with the Boston Cannons before officially signing a contract.
Boyce was one of 24 players picked during four rounds of the MLL Rookie Selection, which is conducted via conference call. Any collegiate player not selected in the MLL Collegiate Draft was available as a Rookie Selection this afternoon. Here is a full list of the 24 players selected:

Boyce has played in 62 career games at Providence and ranks first among active NCAA Division I goaltenders with a school-record 702 saves. He also holds a 9.57 goals against average and a .546 career save percentage.
He has been named to the Tewaaraton Watch List in each of the last two seasons and is a three-time All-BIG EAST First-Team selection. At the conclusion of the 2017 campaign, Boyce claimed All-America honors and was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, while leading Providence College to its first appearance in the national polls.
On March 29, Boyce was selected as one of 10 finalists for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award for men's lacrosse. The initial pool started with 30 candidates on March 4. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in the four domains of community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS award focuses on the total student-athlete.
Boyce will join former Providence College teammate
Jimmy Cunningham '17, who was added to the Boston Cannons' roster on March 25 via the MLL Player Pool. Cunningham claimed his spot after an MLL Open Try-Out held in Charlotte, N.C. during MLL Draft Weekend. Cunningham played in 62 career games for the Friars in Providence, while picking up 163 ground-balls in four-years of play. Cunningham also caused 70 turnovers from 2014 to 2017.

Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.) also will have an opportunity in the MLL after being drafted 60
thoverall by the New York Lizards on March 9. Kearns is the fifth player in Providence College program history to be taken in the MLL Draft.
