PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) of the Providence College men's lacrosse team was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday, April 1. Junior
Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.) earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Boyce has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week four times in his career, including the three nods this season. The senior goalkeeper recorded 17 saves in the Friars' 8-7 overtime win at St. John's on Saturday (March 30). He notched his second-highest save percentage this season (.708) and his third game of the year with 15 or more saves. Boyce holds a 9.25 goals against average, a .585 save percentage and has made 127 saves in 10 starts this season. He ranks seventh nationally in save percentage, eighth in goals against average and 13
th in saves per game (12.70).
Hinrichs posted a team-high three points in the win at St. John's. He notched back-to-back goals in the second quarter and assisted
Matt Grillo's (Setauket, N.Y.) overtime game winner. The junior midfielder has played in nine games this season, making five starts. He's racked up 20 points on seven goals and a team-leading 13 assists. Hinrichs currently ranks eighth in the BIG EAST in assists per game (1.44).
Providence begins a three-game homestand against Georgetown on Saturday, April 6. Opening face-off is set for 1:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
