Providence Track Competes In Day One Of The IC4A And ECAC Championships

The Friars’ competed in the 1,000 meters and DMR trials on the first day of the championships.

BOSTON, MASS. - The Providence College men's and women's track teams competed at the IC4A/ECAC Championships at Boston University on Mar. 2. The Friars had six athletes compete in the preliminary heats on the first day.

Sophomore Ryan Jendzejec (Chappaqua, N.Y) highlighted the first day of competition with his race in the 1,000 meter prelims. Jendzejec finished fifth in the first heat with a personal best time of 2:27.14. Based on his time, Jendzejec will advance to the final and will race on the second day of the IC4A Championships at 1:15 p.m.

The Distance Medley Relay team of Jack Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.), Jared Grossi (Warwick, Mass.), Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) and Marcus Karamanolis (Wellington, New Zealand) placed third in their heat. The team ran a time of 9:57.21 qualifying them for the finals of the DMR tomorrow at 2:20 p.m.

Junior Alex DeCicco (Sachem, N.Y.) raced the prelims of the 1,000 meters. DeCicco finished eighth in her heat in a time of 3:02.55.

Providence returns for Day Two of the IC4A Championships on March 3 for the finals of the men's 1,000 meters, 3,000 meters and Distance Medley Relay.
