PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College volleyball team is ready to continue its home stand as they prepare to host the Bryant University Bulldogs on Sept. 11 at 7:00p.m in Alumni Hall.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Providence College Friars have started the season with a 6-4record, playing most recently at the Kangaroo Classic on Sept. 7-8. The Friars were 2-2 at the Kangaroo Classic, defeating SIUE and Southeast Missouri State and falling to Arkansas State and host UMKC. Providence looks to improve its record and stay undefeated at home.
Senior
Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) earned Kangaroo Classic All-Tournament Honors this weekend. Impellizeri is the top offensive player for Providence so far this season. She currently leads the Friars' attack with 117 kills and a .321 hitting percentage. Impellizeri also has assisted on defense recording 28 total blocks for the Friars.
Juniors
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.),
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and
Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) have all contributed to the Friars' attack by tallying 87, 81 and 63 kills, respectively. Schaible leads Providence in service aces (13), while Root and Alderson are not far behind with seven and six, thus far, in the season.
Sophomore
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) has played the role of setter, currently leading the Friars in assists (346). She also has recorded nine service aces and 25 kills to help the Friars' offense.
Freshmen
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) earned Kangaroo Classic All-Tournament Honors on Sept. 8 and was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week last week (9/4/18). Taylor, the Friars' defensive specialist, has been a key player for the Friars this season and played a critical role in helping her team, thus far. Taylor leads Providence in digs, recording 167 total digs (4.91 dig/s). She has also added 25 assists for the Friars.
Contributing to the Providence defense are Barber, Root and Alderson each recording 79, 64 and 64 digs, respectively. Schaible is a strong force on the front line, totaling 30 blocks to lead the Friars.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: The Bryant University Bulldogs have an overall record of 7-4 this season. They last played at the Hampton Inn-vitational on Sept. 7-8.
Freshman Caroline Kennedy was named Hampton Inn-vitational MVP, while teammates Julia Flynn and Erika Ward earned all-tournament honors.
Kennedy and Kristin Kingi have been the two offensive threats for the Bulldogs. Kennedy leads the team, with 147 kills, while Kingi in second with 113 kills. Kristyn Sperry has been the setter for Bryant as she has 364 assists (8.47 a/s), thus far, this season.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Hampton Inn Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. on Sept. 14-15 is cancelled due to severe weather. The Friars will return to action at home to open up their first BIG EAST match of the season on Friday, Sept. 21 against Marquette at 6:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall.
