Volleyball Set to Compete In Third Annual Ocean State Cup

The Friars first match is set for 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 4 against Brown University.

KINGSTON R.I.- The Providence College volleyball team is set to compete in the third annual Ocean State Cup on Sep. 4-6 at Keaney Gymnasium in Kingston, R.I. The Friars will open the tournament on Sep. 4th with one match against Brown at 4:00 p.m. On Sept. 5th the Friars will take on Bryant at 1:00 p.m. Providence will close out the tournament against Rhode Island on Sep. 6th at 3:00 p.m. 
 
SCOUTING THE FRIARS… The Friars enter the tournament 2-1 after competing at the Holly Young Invitational (Durham N.H.) last weekend. Providence swept St. Peter's (3-0) and New Haven (3-0) then lost its final game against New Hampshire (1-3). Sophomore Tori Otter (Rogers, Ark.) ranks second on the team in kills (18) and blocks (12.0). Following her collegiate debut, freshman Aubrey Easterwood (Dallas, Texas) leads the team in blocks (14.0). Both Otter and Easterwood were named to the Holly Young Invitational All-Tournament Team. 
 
SCOUTING BROWN… The Bears open their 2026 season at the Ocean State Cup. Brown finished its 2025 season 14-10 overall with a 9-5 mark in the Ivy League. The Bears were ranked fourth in the 2026 Ivy League preseason poll. Returning for the Bears is junior Sophia Wolfson, who was named First Team All-Ivy and Ivy League All-Tournament Team in 2025. She also led the team in hitting percentage (.380) and ranked second in service aces (26).
 
SCOUTING BRYANT… The Bulldogs enter the tournament 0-3 after competing in the Charlotte Tournament in Charlotte, N.C. Bryant lost to Charlotte (0-3), North Carolina A&T (1-3) and Appalachian State (0-3). Sophomore Kaitlin Curran currently leads the Bulldogs with 34 kills and ranks second in digs (27). Another standout for the Bulldogs is junior Claudia Camacho-Castro, who leads the team in digs (32) and service aces (six). 
 
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND… The Rams are entering the weekend 3-0 after competing at the CCSU Tournament. URI is off to its best start since 2014. Rhode Island swept the weekend against Siena (3-2), Holy Cross (3-2) and Central Connecticut (3-1). Dakota Henry was named to the All-Tournament Team, and leads the team with 74 digs. 
 
OCEAN STATE CUP HISTORY… Providence College volleyball is the defending 2025 Ocean State Cup Champions, claiming the title after finishing 2-1. Providence swept URI (3-0) and Brown (3-0) before falling short to Bryant (2-3). The Friars claimed the title with a tie breaker.  
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Providence College volleyball team will return to action next weekend (Sep. 11-12) hosting the 21st Annual Friar Classic. The Friars will face off against Manhattan on Sep. 11th at 7:00 p.m. On Sep. 12th the Friars will have two matches, first against Stonehill College at 1:30 p.m., then against Holy Cross at 5:30 p.m.
