PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team is set to host the 14
thAnnual Friar Volleyball Classic on Aug. 31 – Sept. 1. The Friars will host Fairleigh Dickinson, Brown and UMass Lowell in their first home matches of the year. There will be two matches on the first day of the tournament and four matches on the second.

5:00 p.m. – Fairleigh Dickinson vs. Brown
7:00 p.m.– Providence vs. UMass Lowell
Saturday, September 1
10:30 a.m. – Providence vs. Fairleigh Dickinson
12:30 p.m. – Brown vs. UMass Lowell
3:30 p.m.– UMass Lowell vs. Fairleigh Dickinson
5:30 p.m.– Providence vs. Brown
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Providence College Friars have started the season with a 1-2 record after the Boston College Invitational on Aug. 24-25. The Friars enter the 14
thAnnual Friar Classic looking to improve on their record, and capture the title for the second-straight year.
Senior Allision Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) was named to the Boston College All-Tournament Team on Aug. 24-25. Impellizeri currently leads the Friars' attack with 23 kills this season. Juniors
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.),
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) a Pre-Season All- BIG EAST selection, and
Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) have all contributed to the team offense by tallying 17, 17 and 13 kills, respectively. Schaible also leads the Friars in service aces (five).
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) has played the role of setter, thus far, in the season, recording a total of 75 assists.
Freshman
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.) has been the leader if the Friars defense thus far. She leads the Friars with 45 digs. Alderson (16 digs and 2 blocks) and Root (15 digs and 2 blocks) have contributed to the defense. Schaible leads the Friars on the front lines with 5 blocks.
SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS:The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights have started the season with a 0-3 overall record. They last played at the Hampton Inn Leatherneck Invitational on Aug. 24-25.
Erika Sullivan leads the Knights both offensively and defensively. Sullivan has a total of 34 kills and 38 digs. Allison Koester has contributed to the Knights offense, leading the team with 36 assists.
SCOUTING THE BEARS: The Brown Bears have not yet played in the 2018 season and look to start their 2018 campaign at the 14
thAnnual Friar Classic. The Bears ended the 2017 season with a 7-18 record.
The Bears will look offensively to returner Sabrina Stillwell, who led the team in kills, tallying 235. Bailie Salk set the offense in the 2017 season with a total of 413 assists
Joanne Won is the Bears top returner defensively. Won recorded 180 digs, ranking her third for the 2017 Bears' season.
SCOUTING THE RIVERHAWKS: The UMass Lowell Riverhawks have started the season with a 0-3 overall record. The Riverhawks last played at the Fullerton/Riverside Classic on Aug. 24-25.
Ariel Dulaney and Kate Bilyeu have been the two offensive threats for the Riverhawks. Dulaney leads the team, with 21 kills, while Bilyeu not far behind, with 18 kills. McKenna Bova has been the setter for UMass Lowell as she has 52 assists to start the season.
Lindsey Visvardis has led the Riverhawks on defense with 41 digs on the season.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Providence College volleyball team will travel to Kansas City, Mo. to play in the Kangaroo Classic on Sept. 7-8. The teams taking part in the Kangaroo Classic are Providence College, SIUE, Arkansas State, Southeast Missouri State and UMKC. The Friars' first match of the classic is against SIUE on Friday, Sept. 7 at 12:00 p.m.
