Washington, D.C. - The Providence men's lacrosse team fell to Georgetown on Saturday afternoon, 8-4, at Georgetown University in Washington D.C.
1st Quarter: Georgetown grabbed the edge 41 seconds into the game on an Austin McDonald goal.
Joshua Keller (Grand Rapis, Mich.) evened the score at one with his seventh goal of the season, but Jake Carraway answered to give the Hoyas a 2-1 lead after one.
2nd Quarter: The Friars remained within striking distance in the second quarter. After Craig Berge scored on the man up to extend Georgetown's lead to 3-1,
Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.) netted his tenth goal of the season before
Nick Hatzipetrakos (Syosett, N.Y.) scored off a feed from Kearns to cut Georgetown's lead to one, 4-3, going into the locker room.
3rd Quarter: Georgetown used its stingy defense and quick-striking ability on offense to create some breathing room. Lucas Wittenberg, Matt Behrens, and Carraway scored in consecutive fashion to give the Hoyas a 7-3 edge. Hoyas' goalie Nick Marrocco, meanwhile, saved the first five Friars' shots of the period. Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored his tenth goal of the season to bring Providence within 7-4 heading into the final stanza.
4th Quarter: The Hoyas kept up the defensive pressure throughout the fourth quarter, not allowing a shot on net for nearly the first 11 minutes of the stanza. Carraway scored his fourth goal of the game off of Bucaros' third assist of the afternoon to put Georgetown on top 8-4 and seal the Friars fate.
Game Notes: Four goals ties a season-low for Providence (4-7, 1-1) and it is the fewest goals scored by the Friars in defeat. Junior All-American goalie
