Game Notes vs. Georgetown
FRIARS IN BIG EAST ACTION… The Providence College men's lacrosse team will play its second BIG EAST Conference game on April 7 in Washington, D.C. against the Georgetown Hoyas. Opening face-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
TUNE IN… The Friars' game against Georgetown will be broadcast by Fox College Sports Atlantic. The Friars will be featured on the network once more in the 2018 season on April 28 against Villanova. Live stats are also available via the link provided.

PROVIDENCE VS. GEORGETOWN ALL-TIME… Heading into Saturday afternoon's contest the Friars post a 2-8 all-time record against the Hoyas since the first meeting in 1987.
In 2017, Providence captured its second win over Georgetown in a 13-7 victory in Providence, R.I. Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the Friars with four goals and one assist for nine points in the game. Returners Joshua Keller (2) (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Joseph McHale (2) (Bernardsville, N.J.), Nick Hatzipetrakos (1) (Syosset, N.Y.), Sean Leahey (1) (Cranford, N.J.), Conner Byrne (1) (Hicksville, N.Y.) and Ryan Nawrocki (1) (Smithtown, N.Y.) each netted goals in the game.
FRIARS RANK NATIONALLY... Providence ranks second in the nation in clearing percentage behind Ohio State. The Friars average a .931 clear percentage over a 10-game span.
BOYCE IN THE BIG EAST... Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) leads the BIG EAST Conference in save percentage (.546) and saves per game (11.20). He ranks third in the Conference in goals-against average (9.16) amongst goaltenders who have played in at least 75% of their teams games.
BOYCE FEATURED ON 2018 TEWAARATON WATCH LIST... The 2018 Tewaaraton Award Watch List was revealed on March 1. The list includes the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse. Providence College goaltender Tate Boyce is one of 50 players on the watch list. The Tewaaraton Award, established in 2001, is given annually to the most outstanding American college lacrosse player. The 18th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held on May 31, 2018 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
Boyce, the first player in program history to be named to the Tewaaraton Watch List, is one of the most highly decorated players in Providence College lacrosse history. At the conclusion of the 2017 season, he earned USILA Third-Team All-America honors, Inside Lacrosse Media All-America Honorable Mention, All-BIG EAST First Team and BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year recognition.
FRIARS OPEN BIG EAST PLAY IN IMPRESSIVE FASHION... The Friars closed out the month of March with a 14-8 victory over then-RV St. John's. The 14 goals is a season-high for Providence. Sean Leahey now has 16 goals having recorded three goal against St. John's. Alex George won 7-of-11 face-offs for the Friars. Kearns notched his 100th career point in the victory. He has registered 102 career points as a Friar including four points on three gaols and one assist versus the Red Storm.
HATRICKS LIFT THE FRIARS OVER ST. JOHN'S... Three different Friars finished the day with a hat-trick. Leahey, Ryan Nawrocki, and Brendan Kearns all netted three goals. The hat-trick for Leahey was his third of the season.
BOYCE RECORDS SEASON-HIGH 16 SAVES AGAINST SACRED HEART… All-American goaltender Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) recorded a season-high 16 saves against Sacred Heart on March 3. In the Friars' most recent contest against St. John's on March 31, Boyce posted 10 saves. The goaltender has recorded 113 saves over ten games this season. He has double-digit saves in eight of the Friars ten games.
Boyce owns a 9.16 goals-against average and a .549 save percentage over 10 games.
KELLER RECORDS CAREER-HIGH FOUR GOALS… In the loss to UMass Lowell on March 6, senior Joshua Keller (Grand Rapids, Mich.) recorded a career-high four goals. His previous career high for goals in a single game was two. He entered the game with just one goal this season, and now has five on the year, which is tied for fourth on the team.
ONE-GOAL GAMES… Five of the Friars' nine games have been decided by one goal, including four of Providence's six losses. Additionally, three of the six losses have been decided in overtime. Providence's lone victory in a game decided by one goal came against Saint Joseph's (4-3) on Feb. 24.
OVERTIME HEARTBREAK ON THE ROAD... The Friars are 0-3 on the road this season, and each loss was decided in overtime. In their first contest of 2018, the Friars fell at No. 20 Boston University, 12-11, in overtime (Feb. 3). Providence then fell to Sacred Heart in OT, 10-9, on March 3 in Fairfield, Conn. In the team's most recent contest, the Friars lost to Drexel, 11-10, in double-overtime.
KEARNS DISHES OUT THE ASSISTS... Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.) posts a team-high eight assists on the season. He has registered one assist in eight of the teams ten games.
FACE-OFF GAME… The Friars enter the weekend with a 0.500 winning percentage at the face-off "X". Alex George (Simsbury, Conn.) leads the way, having won 53-of-100 opportunities (.530). He also ranks fourth in ground balls per game (4.33) in BIG EAST standings. RJ Romeo (Wilton, Conn.) has seen the second-most reps at the "X" and is 42-84 (.500).
DOUBLE-DIGIT POINTS… Sean Leahey (Cranford, N.J.) leads the Friars wil 23 points on 16 goals and seven assists. Five other Friars have cracked double-digits, including Nick Hatzipetrakos (Syosset, N.Y.) who ranks second on the team in points (18). Hatzipetrakos leads the team in goals with 17. Austin Goltz (Orchard Park, N.Y.) (17pts, 13g/4a), Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.) (17pts, 9g/8a), Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y.) (15pts, 9g/6a), and Evan McGreen (Narragansett, R.I.) (14pts, 7g/7a) also post double digits in the points category.
FRIARS HOLD SAINT JOSEPH'S TO THREE GOALS… The Friars earned a 4-3 victory over Saint Joseph's on Feb. 2. The three goals marked the fewest allowed by Providence since April 23, 2008, when the Friars defeated Wagner, 12-3.
FRIARS PICKED TO FINISH THIRD IN BIG EAST PRESEASON POLL... Providence was picked to finish third in the 2018 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, with a total of 16 points. Denver was picked to win the league, having collected five first-place votes and 25 points overall. Villanova was picked to finish second, with one first-place vote and 21 points.
THREE FRIARS EARN PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST SPOTS... It was announced by the league on Wednesday, Jan. 24 that Providence College men's lacrosse players James Barclay (Toronto, Ontario), Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) and Conner Byrne (Hicksville, N.Y.) were named to the 2018 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Boyce and Barclay were each honored as unanimous selections.
FIVE FRIARS NAMED TO NEILA PRESEASON TEAMS... Five members of the Providence College lacrosse program were selected to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division 1 Preseason Teams. Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) and James Barclay (Toronto, Ontario) were First Team selections. Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.), Sean Leahey (Cranford, N.J.) and Conner Byrne (Hicksville, N.Y.) were named to the Second Team.
FRIARS MAKE PROGRAM HISTORY IN 2017... The Friars embark on the 2018 season after a historic 2017 season. The Friars competed in the BIG EAST Championship game for the first time in program history, falling just short of the title in a 10-9 loss to Marquette on May 6, 2017. PC also achieved it's first-ever national ranking (as high as 20).
10 IS THE NUMBER TO BEAT... The Friars posted a 10-7 overall record (3-2 BIG EAST) in 2017, and finished third in the BIG EAST Conference standings. The Friars 10 victories are tied for the most wins in program history for a single season, and are the most wins since 2006.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN… The Hoyas enter the weekend 6-3 (0-2 BIG EAST) on the season. In BIG EAST play, each of Georgetown's losses were decided by one goal. On March 24, Marquette earned a, 9-8, overtime victory over the Hoyas. On March 31, Georgetown fell to then-No.3 Denver, 6-5.
The Hoyas are 1-1 against ranked opponents in 2018. The team earned a 12-10 victory over then-No. 19 Towson on Feb. 24 and lost to the then-No. 3 Pioneers.
PLAYERS TO WATCH… Three Hoyas have registered greater than 20 points on the season. Daniel Bucaro has registered 41 points on 27 goals and 14 assists. Bucaro is trailed by Jake Carraway (36pts, 24g/12a) and Craig Berge (25pts, 12g/13a).
Georgetown has seen four different goaltenders between the pipes. Nick Marrocco leads the team with 77 saves. He has seen action in nine games for the Hoyas and owns a 8.30 goals-against average and a .520 save percentage.
WHAT'S NEXT… Providence will play two-consecutive road games against Marquette (April 14) in Milwaukee, Wis. and cross-city rival Brown (April 17) in Providence, R.I.
ROAD WARRIORS… The Friars will play three of their final four regular-season games on the road. The only remaining home game on the schedule is against Denver (April 21).
