Women's Basketball Game Notes vs. Assumption College

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE WOMEN'S HOOPS SET TO HOST ASSUMPTION IN EXHIBITION ACTION... Providence will host Assumption College in an exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.

HOMECOMING... Former Friar basketball stand-out Kerry Phayre '83 enters her 23rd season as Head Coach at Assumption College and is the school's all-time wins leader having posted a 366-260 all-time record with the Greyhounds. Phayre played for the Friars from 1980-83 and earned KODAK District I All-America honors. She currently ranks 13th all-time in career scoring (1,269 points) and fifth all-time in assists at the College, with 432. Prior to attending Providence College, Phayre led Saint Xavier to three Rhode Island State Championships and finished her high school career with a 76-4 overall record and 1,174 points.

JOVANA NOGIC NAMED TO ANN MEYERS DRYSDALE AWARD WATCH LIST... On Oct. 23, it was announced that Jovana Nogic was named to the 20-player watch list for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, which is presented annually to the top shooting guard in NCAA Division I. It marks the second-straight season that Nogic has been featured on the watch list.

JOVANA NOGIC FEATURED ON 11-PLAYER PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST TEAM... Jovana Nogic was named to the 2018-19 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team on Oct. 25 at the league's annual media day at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Nogic is one of 11 players to earn preseason recognition. It marks the second-straight year that she has earned Preseason All-BIG EAST recognition. Nogic was named an All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention honoree at the conclusion of the 2016-17 season.

LOOKING BACK AT 2017-18 SEASON... The Friars finished the 2017-18 campaign with a 10-21 overall record and a 3-15 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. Providence fell to Butler in overtime, 73-67, in the BIG EAST Tournament First Round, held at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Ill.

FRIARS PICKED TO FINISH NINTH IN BIG EAST PRESEASON COACHES' POLL... Providence College was picked to finish ninth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on Oct. 25 at Madison Square Garden during the league's annual media day. DePaul and Marquette are co-favorites to win the league title, with each securing five first-place votes and 77 points.

FRIARS CLAIM A WINNING RECORD IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY IN BACK-TO-BACK SEASONS... The Friars finished non-conference play in 2017-18 with a 7-5 mark and secured a winning record in non-conference action in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 2010-11 and 2011-12 campaigns. In 2016-17, Providence finished the non-conference portion of their schedule with an 8-4 record.

DOUBLE-DIGIT WINS... The Friars recorded double-digit wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2010-11 and 2011-12. Last season, Providence recorded 10 wins and in 2016-17 it totaled 12 victories.

PROVIDENCE SET THREE-POINT PERCENTAGE RECORD FOR SECOND-STRAIGHT SEASON... The Friars have set a single-season record for three-point field goal percentage each of the last two seasons. In 2016-17, Providence shot a school-record 0.374 from beyond the arc (192-514). Last season, the Friars topped the single-season record book, once again, shooting 0.391 from beyond the arc (192-491).

THREE-POINT TERRITORY... In each of the last two seasons, the Friars have connected on 192 three-point field goals. Providence's 192 three-pointers during the 2017-18 and 2016-17 are tied for the third-most triples in program history for a single season.

FRIARS COME UP JUST SHORT... Ten of the Friars' 21 losses during the 2017-18 season were decided by a single-digit margin, including three games by five points or less.

BIG EAST ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM SELECTION CHANELL WILLIAMS RETURNS TO COURT FOR SOPHOMORE CAMPAIGN... Providence College point guard Chanell Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) was named a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team in 2017-18. Williams played all 31 games for the Friars and appeared in the starting line-up 17 times. She averaged 6.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and a team-best 2.6 assists per game. During BIG EAST Conference regular-season play, Williams averaged 8.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Williams was a two-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honoree (Jan. 8 and Jan. 22). She recorded nine double-digit scoring games for the Friars, including eight during BIG EAST action. The rookie tallied a career-high 16 points against Seton Hall on Jan. 5. She also posted career highs of seven rebounds vs. Seton Hall (Jan. 26), five assists vs. Yale (Nov. 29) and five steals vs. Marquette (Jan. 10). Williams became the 17th player from Providence College to earn BIG EAST All-Freshman or All-Rookie Team honors, and the first since Sarah Beal in 2014.

MADDIE JOLIN LOOKING TO BUILD OFF OF IMPRESSIVE JUNIOR CAMPAIGN... Last season, Maddie Jolin put together a solid junior campaign. She finished second among her teammates in scoring (10.6 ppg) and led the Friars in rebounding (4.7 rpg). Jolin also added 1.8 assists and 1.0 steal per contest. She found her rhythm from three-point territory and led the team in field-goal percentage from beyond the arc (.439, 66-158).

1,000-POINT MILESTONE WITHIN REACH FOR MADDIE JOLIN... In three seasons at Providence College, Maddie Jolin has recorded 750 career points. She posted her best offensive season a year ago, totaling 330 points for an average of 10.6 points per game. Jolin has eclipsed 250 points each two of her three seasons with the Friars. She needs 250 points to become the 35th player in program history to score 1,000 points.

JOLIN FINISHED SECOND AMONG BIG EAST PLAYERS IN 3PT FIELD-GOAL PERCENTAGE... Maddie Jolin finished second among BIG EAST players in three-point field-goal percentage last season (.439, 66-158). Her percentage also ranked 21st among NCAA Division I players.

JOVANA NOGIC NOTCHED THIRD-HIGHEST SCORING TOTAL BY A JUNIOR IN PROGRAM HISTORY... Jovana Nogic's 513 points in 2017-18 marked the third-highest single-season scoring total by a junior in program history. The top-two on the list include, Friars' all-time leading scorer Tracy Lis (759) and Nadine Malcolm (628). Additionally, Nogic was the first player to eclipse 500 points in a single season since Chelsea Marandola (613) during the 2009-10 campaign.

NOGIC RANKS 18TH ON FRIARS' ALL-TIME SCORING LIST... Jovana Nogic enters the 2018-19 season with 1,240 career points (13.8 ppg) and ranks 18th on the Friars' all-time scoring list. Nogic became the 34th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone on Jan. 10, 2018 vs. Marquette, as she connected on a three-point bucket just 1:38 into the game.

FRIARS RETURN TOP-FOUR SCORERS FROM 2017-18... Providence College returns its top-four scorers from a season ago, led by Jovana Nogic (17.1 ppg) and Maddie Jolin (10.6 ppg). Clara Che finished third on the team in scoring average (6.9 ppg), followed by Chanell Williams (6.7 ppg). In all, the four players combined 1,281 of the team's 1,850 points, accounting for 69.2-percent of the Friars' offense.

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE WELCOMES SIX NEWCOMERS TO THE ROSTER... The Friars' seven returning players from the 2017-18 campaign will be joined by six newcomers on the roster. First-year players include guards Kaela Webb (Pontiac, Mich.), Earlette Scott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Maya Klein (Stamford, Conn.), in addition to forwards Sophia Widmeyer (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia), Mary Baskerville (Enfield, Conn.) and Alyssa Geary (Elmhurst, Ill.).

NOGIC HOLDS SINGLE-SEASON RECORD FOR THREE-POINTERS... Jovana Nogic set the Providence College single-season record for three-pointers, with 91, during the 2016-17 season. The previous record was held by Julie Wheeler '98, which she set during the 1994-95 season, with 82.

NEARING CAREER RECORD FOR THREE POINTERS... The Providence College record for three-pointers made in a career was set by Julie Wheeler '98, with 252, in 101 games (1994-98). Senior guard Jovana Nogic has hit 230-557 attempts from three-point territory (.413). Over the course of her career, Nogic has averaged 77 three-pointers per season.

NOGIC RANKS AMONG NCAA ACTIVE CAREER LEADERS FROM BEYOND THE ARC... Jovana Nogic ranks ninth among active NCAA Division I players in career three-point percentage. Nogic has hit 41.3-percent of her attempts from beyond the arc (230-557). Additionally, she ranks 18th among active NCAA career leaders in three-pointers made per game (2.56).
