PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College volleyball team is set travel to Omaha, Neb. on Nov. 16-17 to face No. 9 Creighton. Due to the fact that Providence and No. 9 Creighton are travel partners, they play each other in back-to-back matches over one weekend each season. The Friars' first match against the Bluejays will take place on Friday, Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m. (ET). The match will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network via Fox Sports Go. The weekend will then conclude with a match at 7 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, Nov. 17.
SCOUTING THE FRIARS: The Providence College Friars head into the weekend with an overall record of 8-19 and a BIG EAST record of 2-14. Providence most recently faced Villanova and Georgetown on Nov. 9-11. The Friars dropped both matches at home.
Providence has three different players ranked in the top-25 in the BIG EAST Conference for kills. Senior
Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) has been the key player for the Friars' attack, especially in BIG EAST match-ups. Impellizeri is coming off an impressive weekend against Villanova and Georgetown. In the match against Georgetown, Impellizeri set a career high in kills (20) and posted a positive hitting percentage (.500). Overall this season, Impellizeri has recorded 316 kills and a hitting percentage of .348, ranking her fourth in the conference. Impellizeri's 3.19 kills per set ranks eighth in the BIG EAST.
Juniors
Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) and
Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) have contributed to the Providence offense throughout the season. Root has recorded 303 kills and her 3.06 kills per set ranks ninth in the BIG EAST. Root also has tallied 25 service aces, ranking her 13
thin the conference standings. Alderson has tallied 237 kills and her 2.39 kills per set ranks 24
thin the BIG EAST.
Sophomore
Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) has been the setter for the Friars this season with 990 total assists. Barber's 10.00 assists per set rank third in the BIG EAST. She also has contributed 62 kills and 15 service aces to the Providence offense.
Freshman
Mackenzie Taylor (Holbrook, N.Y.), the Friars' defensive specialist, has been a key player for the Friars. Taylor leads Providence in digs, recording 434 and her 4.38 digs per set ranks seventh in the BIG EAST. Taylor is the only freshman ranked in the top-seven for digs. She has also added 69 assists and 13 service aces for the Friars.
Contributing to the Providence defense are Barber, Alderson and Root, who have recorded 239, 230 and 189 digs, respectively. Impellizeri and
Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) are the strong forces on the front line, totaling 80 and 61 blocks apiece.
SCOUTING THE NO. 9 BLUEJAYS: The No. 9 Creighton Bluejays have an overall record of 24-4 and are undefeated (16-0) in the BIG EAST, ranking first in conference standings. Creighton last played against Georgetown and Villanova on Nov. 9-11. The Bluejays went 2-0 that weekend, beating both teams in straight sets. Creighton is currently on a 16-match win streak.
Taryn Kloth has been the offensive threat for Creighton, recording 405 kills. Jaai Winters and Megan Ballenger have contributed to the Bluejays' attack with 378 and 252 kills, respectively. Kloth and Winters' 4.09 and 3.82 kills per set ranks them second and third in the BIG EAST. Ballenger's .310 hitting percentage ranks eighth in the conference standings. Madelyn Cole has tallied 37 service aces to lead Creighton, thus far, this season. Ballenger is ranked third in the BIG EAST.
Cole has been the Bluejays' setter for the season. She has totaled 1066 assists and her 10.77 assists per set ranks first in the BIG EAST.
Brittany Witt has led the defense for the Bluejays tallying 430 digs and her 4.34 digs per set ranks eighth in the BIG EAST. Winters and Cole have contributed to Creighton's defense with 303 and 244 digs, respectively.
On the defensive front line, Naomi Hickman and Ballenger lead the Bluejays' in blocks (80 and 89). Hickman and Ballenger are ranked fourth and tenth in the BIG EAST.
