NEWTON, MASS.– The Providence College swimming and diving team takes to the pool for the first time this year at the New England Catholic Invite hosted by Boston College on Oct. 5 and 6. The women's team earned a fourth-place finish with 412 points, while the men finished in second with 700 points.

In the first event the foursome of Jennie Bankes (Boxford, Mass.),
Katie Thornton (Fairfield, Conn.),
Margie Keenan (Summit, N.J.), and
Lauren Zawacki (Marshfield, Mass.) combined for a 1:39.03 in the women 200-yard freestyle relay, enough for second place. The same group would go on to finish the 400-yard freestyle relay in second (3:38.64) as well.
In her debut with a Providence cap on, the freshman Bankes earned 16 more points in the 200-yard freestyle with her second-place finish (1:58.38).
The men got off to a strong start behind a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:30.33) relay. The relay consisted of

Jamie Eigner (Cheshire, Conn.),
Liam Straker (South Glastonbury, Conn.), and
John Freeman.
Freshman
Andrew Ferrell (Atlanta, Ga.) was first to the wall in the 200-yard butterfly for the Friars. He raked in 20 points with his 1:56.74 finishing time.Â
Griffin Conley, a freshman from Falmouth, Maine, earned a third-place finish on the one meter diving board. He tallied a score of 131.80.
Freeman, McElrath, Farrell, returned to the pool alongside PK Brannigan (Darien, Conn.) for the 400-yard freestyle relay. The teamed up for a third-place finish (3:15.13).Â
The Providence College Friars host their home opener on Oct. 19 against the Bryant University Bulldogs
