PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team travels down to DeLand, Fla. for the Hatter Classic tournament on Sept. 1-2. The Friars have begun their season 3-0 and look to build upon their momentum in the second tournament of the season. On the first day (Sept. 1), the Friars will face the East Carolina Pirates at 1:00 p.m. Providence will then face the Bucknell Bison on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 1:00 p.m. before finishing the tournament against host Stetson at 7:00 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
The Providence College Friars have started the season with a 3-0 record after sweeping the Boston College Tournament on Aug. 25-26. The Friars enter the Hatter Classic having won 6 straight sets. Junior Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y.) was named MVP of the Boston College tournament while sophomore Addison Root (Wichita, Kan.) and freshman McKenzie Lydon (Stuart, Fla.) were named to the All-Tournament team. For her efforts, Lydon was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week as well.
The Friars have four players with at least 30 kills after the first weekend of action. Root is leading the Friars with 40 kills (3.33 k/s). Impellizeri and sophomore Jenae Alderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) have tallied 33 kills (2.75 k/s) and junior Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) had 30 kills (2.50 k/s). Setting the offense for the Friars was freshman Allison Barber (Woodbury, Minn.) Barber is averaging 11.2 assists per set after totaling 135 assists over the weekend.
Lydon has been the leader of the Friars defense thus far. She leads the Friars with 56 kills and leads the BIG EAST with a 4.67 dig per set average. Impellizeri and sophomore Lindsey Schaible (Tampa, Fla.) have been a force on the front line as they are averaging .92 and 1.00 blocks per set, respectively.
SCOUTING EAST CAROLINA:
The East Carolina Pirates have begun the season with a record of 2-1. The Pirates defeated both William & Mary and Georgia State in three sets before dropping a four-set match against Rutgers.
Lael Ceriani has led the East Carolina offense in the early part of the season. After the first three matches, Ceriani has accumulated 44 kills and a kills per set average of 4.40. Shelby Martin has set the offense for the Pirates. Martin has tallied 106 assists on the season (10.60 a/s).
Brandee Markwith is leading the ECU defense by tallying 47 digs (4.70 d/s).
SCOUTING BUCKNELL:
The Bucknell Bison are off to a 3-0 start to the season after defeating LaSalle, Iona, and Saint Peter's at the Bucknell Invitational.
Sophie Bullard leads the Bison in kills thus far with 46 (3.54 k/s). The leading setter for Bucknell has been Luz Nagle who is averaging 8.17 assists per set and has accumulated 98 total assists on the season.
The strength of the Bison team has been their defense as Bucknell has three players with at least 35 digs on the season. Leading the team is Brooke Stark who has a total of 44 digs (3.38 d/s). Bullard has contributed 38 digs (2.92 d/s) And Blake Buchholz has totaled 36 (2.77 d/s). The Bison also have a strong blocking front line. Mimi Richards is leading the team with 21 total blocks (1.62 blks/s) while Celeste Barker has added 18 (1.38 blks/s).
SCOUTING STETSON:
The Stetson Hatters have started the season off with a record of 0-3. The Hatters dropped matches against Central Connecticut, Florida Atlantic and Stephen F. Austin at the Stetson Invitational.
Eva Deisa is the leading offensive force for Stetson. Deisa has 37 kills (3.08 k/s) on the season. Setting the offense has been Naina Ivanova. Ivanova has tallied 100 (8.33 a/s) assists this season.
Ivanova has also been the top defensive player for the Hatters as she has a total of 41 digs (3.42 d/s) this season.
