PROVIDENCE R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team is set to host the annual Friar Classic on Sept. 9-10. The Friars will host Holy Cross, La Salle University and Quinnipiac University. The Friars will begin their tournament on Sept. 9 at 7:00 p.m. against Holy Cross. Providence volleyball will then return to action against La Salle on Sept. 10 at 11:00 a.m. before finishing its tournament against Quinnipiac at 5:30 p.m. All games will have live streams. SCOUTING PROVIDENCE: The Friars have had a great start to their season, tallying a 7-1 record. The Friars are riding a seven-match win streak as they have not lost since the first match of the season. Providence has employed a well-balanced offense so far this season. Sophomore Megan Onyundo (Woodbridge, Va.) is the team leader in kills with 70 (2.92 kps), with senior Kayla Fitzgerald (Redlands, Calif.), 64 kills (2.56 kps), and sophomore Allison Impellizeri (Seaford, N.J.), 60 kills (2.73 kps), also factoring heavily into the Friar's attack.
Chicyia Clark (Huntington Beach, Calif.) has been a strong setter for the Friars thus far. Clark leads the team with 225 assists (9.00 aps) to this point in the season.
Defensive specialist Michelle Cruz (Midland Park, N.J.) has been the team's defensive leader, recording 136 digs (4.86 dps). Clark, Fitzgerald and Onyundo have all played important roles defensively as well, recording 63, 56, 52 digs respectively.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS: Holy Cross has begun its season with a 2-4 record. The Crusaders' attack has been led by Mandy Sifferlen, who has recorded 94 kills (4.70 kps) thus far. Lizzie Webb has been the team's setter, tallying 172 assists (8.60 aps). Defensive specialist M.C. Magner has recorded 79 digs (3.95 dps) to lead Holy Cross. Webb and Sifferlen, recording 58 and 56 digs respectively, have also been strong defensively as well.
SCOUTING LA SALLE: La Salle has started the season with a 7-1 record. Offensively, the Explorers are being led by Devin Corah. Corah has tallied 100 kills (3.85 kps) and 15 service aces (.58 sps) to this point in the season. Kathryn Wood has been the team's setter, recording 262 assists (10.08 aps). Defensive specialist Jensen Sharrits leads the team with 149 digs (5.73 dps).
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC: Quinnipiac has started the season with a 6-4 recored. The Bobcats are being led offensively by Natalie Alechko and Jen Coffey. Alechko is leading Quinnipiac with 95 kills (2.64 kps) while Coffey has recorded 91 kills (2.53 kps). Maria Pansari has been strong in the setter role, tallying 354 assists (9.83 aps) to this point in the season. Defensively, the Bobcats are being led by Kat Miller, who has 104 digs (2.89 dps) on the season.
